Are these startup items needed for X50v?
In an effort to have as much RAM as possible at startup, I was wondering if the following files are needed at startup:
- BTTrayCE - I am assuming this is the little icon and a program for Bluetooth
- odClientCeAutoLaunchSmart - I have seen some postings on this, is it needed?
- poutlook - ???
- SplashV - ???
- WirelessIcon -- this I do need, as I use the WiFi on it often
For items I do not need, whats the best way to get rid of them? Do you just remove them from the startup folder?

I accidently deleted the BTTray one and didn't notice for a week. BT Tray and Wireless Icon make it appear in the bar at the bottom. I dunno about the other ones.

How do you get rid of the "odClientCeAutoLaunchSmart.exe" file from the startup folder?? I deleted it and it comes back.

SplashV is the little instructional screen that runs after a hard-reset explaining the use of theWiFi switch.
You can delete it if you wish.
The odClientCeAutoLaunchSmart.exe can be deleted but it will be recreated on the next soft-reset.
If you really don't want Odyssey to load you can overwrite the Odyssey file within the Funk Software folder with a zero-byte file of the same name.
This will prevent Odyssey from loading and will save you some RAM.

Thanks for the info...I am blonde, so what is a ZERO BYTE FILE? Would that be a blank text file that you just rename to "odClientCeAutoLaunchSmart.exe"??

hehehehe -- Windows Mobile didn't like the fact that I changed the name...gave me a nasty little message upon a soft reset...and then it regenerated the file anyways...ah well...so much for trying to save a few "K".

I replace the odClientCE.exe files after every hard reset and it saves quite a bit of space. Unzip the attached file and place it the /Windows and /Program Files/Funk Software/Odyssey Client folders.
Also, if you don't have the popular 3D BT and WF icons loaded, put these files (also attached) in your /Windows directory for a nice facelift. Enjoy!

Sorry.
I read your question too quickly.
The zero-byte file should be named "OdClinetCE.exe" and it goes in \Program Files\Funk Software\Odyssey Client.
You overwrite the one that's already there.
You don't touch the "odClientCeAutoLaunchSmart.exe" in StartUp.

Overwriting the one in the Windows folder is unnecessary and doesn't save you any memory.
It actually wastes memory (although not enough to measure).

I'll freely admit to being a tech neophyte but learning, so please tell how replacing a larger file with a 3 byte one does not save space...

Because the files you're replacing are not being replaced.
Both files are in ROM and nothing will replace them.
All you're doing is putting in a placeholder that tells the operating system that a different version of the same file has been installed and to now use that one instead of the original.
The one in Program Files is supposed to get loaded into memory at StartUp so 'replacing' that one does prevent it from loading and there is your memory gain.
Not because its been erased -- but because it can no longer load.
The one in Windows does not get loaded so putting in the placeholder for it only wastes a placeholder (thus wasting RAM).
Don't take my word for it.
Try it yourself.
Delete the one in Windows and then soft-reset.
Make a note of your free RAM first.
After the reset the original 2MB file will be back in the Windows folder but your free RAM will not have changed one byte.
