i just lost my x50v :( should i replace it now or wait till october with WM 5.0 ?

i lost my beloved axim x50v while speedskating at night in toronto (friday night group inline skate) :( :(...luckily i had made both a sprite backup and a dell backup the night before so all my info is still on my computer(that's probably the ony good news form this horrible ordeal..(i lost my baby :(.....)

the question is i'm not sure if i should replace it now and get the free update cd later or wait till october to get one with windows 5 installed...any suggestions ???

thanks in advance ...

Doesn't particularly matter, really. Just depends on whether you need one now or can wait for a time. All I would suggest is that either you obtain Complete Care on your next one, or make sure it is otherwise insured (for instance, through your contents policy.)

I had mine stolen from me. I used it everysingle day so I needed one asap. I waited until Dell did those 10 days of deals, where for one day only it was very very cheap. Then I ordered it. If you dont need your as much, then just wait.... But if WM5 is loaded on your ppc, and then you do a Sprite restore.... What happens?

no one knows but you may have the same question if you have it all loaded and do an update. we may all have to do the fresh install thing when wm5 comes along. i think i would not be able to wait until october (if it really is then)! just my 2 cents worth.

Why would you wait?

Dell is giving away WM 5.0 in October if you buy a Axim now.

I haven't heard anything 'officially' for us Canadians getting WM 5.0.

Mr. Anderson, I know I couldn't wait to replace mine, although my wife might have a different opinion

How is T.O.? Left there 7 years ago, the only thing I miss is the food

I could not find where Complete Care covers loss or theft. It appears to be specifically excluded. I thought I saw in a TV ad where it was covered but haven't seen it since. If you have a link that shows otherwise, I would appreciate you posting it. I have recently lost mine and have complete care.

From what I have read, you have to exchange a device for a new device. You have to give them the bad one for a new one. So if you don't have one at all, they will not exchange or replace it. I may be wrong and someone from dell would have to answer this but it is how I understood the policy. A third party insurance policy/agreement for it would cover lost or theft and all you would probably have to pay is the deductible if there is one.

Apologies if that is the case; I've never taken out any insurance with the manufacturer of the device to which it relates, and thus didn't know what Complete Care does and does not cover (I simply assumed that it would cover those basic categories). It costs me nothing to add my Axim to my home contents insurance, and is covered for loss, theft, damage, etc. Consequently I see little value in insuring it again with Dell.

I'm sure the T&Cs of Dell's Complete Care is on the US website, and perhaps someone with slightly more resources and time than me will be kind enough to post a link.

When you use certain credit cards, you're automatically covered if it's lost or stolen. If you did purchase with a credit card, you may want to check into their policy and see if the purchase was covered.

Yea, I would read the policy. I have this as well with most of my ccs. I did notice that on most of them it is until they are paid off for that purchase. So if there is an outstanding balance its ok but once its paid off it no longer covers it. Just make sure you read the policy completely.

Here's a link to information about Dell's Complete Care.

Unfortunately, as stated by others, it specifically excludes "damage caused by intentional acts, fire, theft or loss."

It's a good thing I'm finding this out now, before I order my X50v. I would have assumed that the extra charge Complete Care would have covered anything that happened to my PDA during the coverage period. Sorry, mr anderson, for your loss, but I guess this should be a lesson to all of us.

very understandable that they don't cover a lost unit...seeing as how that's impossible to prove. If they did i'll bet there would be a flood of people 'losing' their x50vs.
