Connecting x50v to Treo 650

Can anyone tell me how to link my x50v to my Treo 650 so that I can browse the net on my AXIM. My wireless service provider is Verizon. I have the unlimited data plan.

I'm assuming the first thing to do is pair them up via bluetooth?

Bump.
Anyone succeed in this?
Pairing is succesful but the Dell cannot find any services in the Treo Pity as I would like to use the Edge connection speeds and combine with application which run on the PPC but not Palm.

You keep asking when the answer is right in front of you....

BT DUN is what you need to browse the web using your Treo 650 and Verzion disables this feature on most of their phones (they want you to buy a PC card instead and charge higher rates). Other versions of the Treo do have this functionality.

There may be some work arounds available. Check Hofo. You will find much more info on phone specific issues like this over there.

PDA-overkill, anyone? ;)

Seriously, an Axim AND a Treo 650? Sell one, get a good BT phone and pocket the difference.

Naa. Not overkill. For some, both are essential road warrior tools

OK my Treo650 is an unlocked GSM model.
With DUN enabled, the Dell cannot "discover" any phone services using the "Connect to Internet via phone" wizard but can discover the DUN service via the "Explore a Bluetooth device" wizard.
I already have preconfigured connections for my celleular providers so after creating the shortcut to the Treo650 DUN, tapping on it appears to connect successgully to the Treo. I select the connection to the cellulae provider, and after a little while, it stops - failed connection.
Appreciate any clues

Umm...how are you using a GSM phone with Verizon? Maybe that's the problem ;)

I guess the most obvious question is, can you browse the web from the Treo? If not, then everything else is a moot point. I'd check on a phone-centric site though.

Also, I've heard people say the Treo does a better job at web browsing than a seperate PDA teathered to a bluetooth phone, so that could be a possibility here too even if you get it working.

You will need to make some changes to the ROM to do this.

If you are interested, I can offer you some advice on it, but do realize you can really screw things up if you do it wrong. (For what it's worth, I screwed up my ROM once, but all it took was replacing 2 files on the SD card to fix it).

While you are at it, you can even remove/add programs to the ROM. For example, I removed all the provider specific customizations except for SMS. I also removed Versamail, and threw in TCPMP. Woot.

Sorry, I can't give you my ROM, just some advice on how to do it. Since you use a different provider, there is a very very good chance it would break something badly if you tried it.

There are both CDMA/GSM versions of the 650 available.

It's alright, but there are things it has a hard time with.

Actually, you might be able to get away with a Bluetooth upgrade without the need for a new ROM.

Give http://shadowmite.com/spy/BtManager.verizon.prc a try.

I don't have a treo so there may be other BT issues with the phone. However, I have been able to connect with my v551. See if you can pair with your phone. From the axim chose the bt manager and see if you have the connect to the internet via phone service. Chose that service, follow the instructions and see if you can pair with the treo.

If you can, that is half the battle. Then you have to configure the axim. the following should be put into the BT modem setup for a new connection.

Dialing number: *99***1#
User name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1
Domain: (leave blank)
Extra dial-string modem commands: +CGDCONT=1, "IP", "WAP.CINGULAR"

Use all caps as written above.

This works on my v551 phone and logs on and uses gprs data. If you have unlimited data, no problem. It will also work with medianet and you can go anywhere your axim will take you, however you will run up against the data transfer limits on the media net packages. if you go over the limit, you pay by the kb! urghhhh! i only use this in an emergency and only the coming months will see what the damage really is. hope this helps with the treos.

also beware the wm5 crippled BT, uh oh. Is that even politcally correct? should it be BT challenged so i don't offend dell or M$? sorry for the rant. good luck
