How exactly do you erase your BIS? that is my primary goal in updating to AO5 and in my searching thats the only solution I came up with to erase the BIS. I want to completely clean my x50 including the BIS of all files will installing A05 automatically delete BIS or do I have to do somthing else first.
Use File Explorer or use ActiveSync Explorer, browse to BIS and delete all the files as you do on the PC.

Deleting all the files is not going to wipe out all the installed applications, no will it wipe out the contact, calendar, etc. PIM databases. The only way I know to fully wipe everything off the device is to do a hard reset.
Goose
No, The point here is hard reset alone will not wipe the BIS old contents..So:
Perform in order:
1-Clear BIS
2-Hard reset
Then you can have an "original factory condition"

Doing a hard reset on either of my X51s removes all of my personal files. I have never deleted them manually. Coincidentally I just did a hard reset on one of them this morning to get rid of a bunch of duplicates in my calendar, and I changed the device name before I did a new sync. This allowed me to go back and verify that there were close to 300 files on it before (all still in the old sync folder on my PC), and the only file on it when I started rebuilding everything was the SysInfo.txt file. I have noticed in the past that the SysInfo file is always still on the device after a hard reset. I had to copy all of the old files to the new sync folder to reload them onto the X51.
There WERE about 6 or 7 empty folders in the My Documents folder on the X51 (I looked in each to verify there were no files), and I found this a little puzzling. These folders were only about 1/3 of the ones I normally have, but one of them was called Business, which I thought I had created myself on the first PPC I had years ago. I don't have any idea if the X51 comes out of the box with a specific set of empty folders in the My Documents folder, but that is what I assumed. I can't think of any likely situation where a hard reset would delete all of the files and only SOME of the folders, but that would be the only other explanation.
I have a question for all of you. I have my x50v upgraded to WM5 with no issues and I noticed that my rom is only A01. Is it possible to update the rom to the latest which is A05 and still retain WM5?

ROM A01 applies to WM5, and so far, for the x50v, it is the only version available for WM5. ROM A05 refers only to WM2003, so if you want A05, you'll have to revert back.
I am trying to upgrade to A05 from A01. When I run the upgrade utility, I try to backup the ROM first but when the program checks my system, it comes up with A01 (correct) but WM 2003SE. I am running WM5. If I continue with the backup, my Dell just hangs.
Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to go through any previous upgrades (i.e. A02, A03...) or can I just go from A01 to A05?
Please help, I really do need to upgrade (hopefully this will get rid of all the hanging).
So, I have next problem: When I tufn on my Dell Axim x50v, I can`t do anything about 5 sec. If I click to some icon, waiting long time, if Dell do that. Before I didn`t it. But after abou 5 sec. it`s everything alright. I have last ROM 05.
Do you think, that reflash ROM memory can help me?
why did you dig up over a year old thread to say this?
why not just post a new board?
*sigh* oh well. as for your problem, it may be some of the 'today screen' addons that you've loaded, and whatnot, i know people have them... i try to keep my addons to a minimum, though i do use wizbar advance.. which i love.
if you reflash your rom, it's basicly like doing a hard reset... unless you're actually doing an upgrade. check your manual about hard resetting, else, if you have an old rom version (like A04), you could try upgrading to something more recent. (A06 was pretty stable, but people have issues with A12, specificly the A12 upgrading process)
