There goes my BIS!
Last night after a soft reset my Built-In Storage vanished. I searched the forums, tried the tips... even a hard reset didn't bring it back.
It took 15 minutes to explain to the Dell guy what the problem was. I don't think he ever fully understood, but the important thing is he approved a replacement. It's going to be a hard few days though...

Exactly the same happened to my x50v last night (no kidding).
My device crashed (again...) and I had to do a soft reset, after which the BIS was totally gone.
Having done a hard reset after that, my BIS is still not appearing in any menu, be it File Explorer or System Settings.
The Dell customer support which I talked to told me that this is a known(!) error. He said something about contacts which are supposed to be broken and the device would have to be switched. Unfortunately, next business day support only means that I get a temporary replacement device on monday at the earliest, which will then be switched again when my actual device is repaired.
Oh and then I live in Germany, where Dell support seems to be far from the US division's support. For example, I had to pay for the phone call to Customer Support, and was talking to a Polish guy in a Polish call center who didn't really understand what I was saying:-|
Given that I just bought the x50v two weeks ago, I'm really p***** off by the crappy support. Dell always had a good reputation in this area, I thought.

The same thing happened to mine a couple of weeks ago, but Dell replaced it with a refurbished unit and I am happy so far.

I don't understand why Dell keeps replacing "broken" Axim with refurbs. They should be sending you a new replacement if its under warranty. I wouldnt accept a refurb. I use to "refurb" electronic equipments back in college for summer job. We jumped wires for cracked pc boards, etc. Not to scare you or anything but there are alot of people here who seem to be happy with a refurb unit.

Maybe thats why Dell's revenue was less than expected.

I know they are trying to contain cost and stuff but what good is it if you have to constantly be replacing them.
Thats what happening to domestic car makers. In addition to losing money with rebates, etc, they are losing money with warranties with cars that are poorly built.

Looking like it's a crap shoot whether you'll get an x50v that lasts longer than a couple months.

I'm no Dell fanboy but my past PDAs have often had trouble too. I think they are all kind of poorly made, compared to other gadgets like cell phones.

Ok, don't want to void my warranty by flashing ROM, so I guess I'll have to wait for a replacement.

Go ahead and try to get it up and running as well as you can. Once it's booted, it should function more or less as it did just sans the internal 128MB ... which really doesn't amount to much in the grand scheme of things.
What I did was reinstall my most-used programs (basically TCPMP) and sync my PIM stuff, and it ended up being not so intolerable while waiting for the new one.
