The Things that Worry me w/ my A50v....

Can someone of a high background in technology and electronics help me?

I'm worried of the following about my device...

-Inserting my headphones into the headphone jack of Axim50v will ruin and loosen the connection, and therefore the needed conduction for stereo sound. My 2 past mp3 players (most recent the Palm Zire 72) had this problem - after [3-4?] months of using the headphone jack, only the left side of aannny headphone worked. I had to push the jack in a way so that i recieved stereo.

-I read somewhere that my BIS is slow and ONLY capable of 100,000 read/writes (or only write?). This worries me b/c each time i launch an app or w/e, there may be read/write activity, with the former being always likely.

-Just like a real monitor, can the A50v's monitor be ruined from repetitive dim to bright, or screen-off to sreen on?

-Do soft resets ruin my device in anyway?

I'm a concerned 50v user and I hope I get some responses

1. Your headphone jack is a mechanical connection. As such, each time you plug it in, it loosens a tad bit. They are designed for many hundreds of plug/unplugs and unless you do this dozens of times every day, you shouldn't have a problem with it for quite some time.

2. I've heard the same thing about BIS but I don't believe it. BIS is a form of memory, as such it holds 1's and 0's. I don't see how there could be a finite number of times that stte can change. What I can see is, like a hard drive, there is a MTB (mean time between failure) spec.

3. The x50v is an LCD. Changing the backlight should have no effect on the life of the screen, nor should screen off to screen on. This is not a crt that has a burn-in problem like older oscilloscopes and such.

4. Soft reset in no way damages your unit.

Actually, you worried too much.
1. I never have any problem with x50v's headphone. The problem you have with the previous Mp3 player is probably caused by the bad quality of the headphone or the device. Another possibility is that you toy with the jack too much.
2. There are a lot of discussion about this already since WM2005 is going to use flash ROM as primary storage. I think microsoft even published an article on this. The answer I got is that rarely anyone uses up their flash ROM so quickly.
3. I don't think LCD screen suffers from this problem. Though, I may be wrong.
4. Soft-reset HELP you to restart the device when it freezes up or crashes. It doesn't erase ANY data or setting.

In conclusion, major hardware problems with Pocket PC is VERY rare base on my experience. Most problems with Pocket PCs are caused by softwares.
