Ready to dump Treo 650
Well, I'm a long time Palm user, long time Linux hacker and I prefer Mac OS X above all else, although I'll admit to a Sony Vaio for games and those "PC things" like Project, Visio and AutoCAD.
But.... I'm just plain fed up with Palm, so much I'm willing to go over to Dell/Microsoft and give up life as one of the "converged". The combo of Verizon and Palm for any kind of support is near fatal.
This Treo 650 of mine is just bad. I've had two Kyocera Palm phones, they had problems but at least they were good phones (very good in fact). The Treo likes to drop calls, in places where I've used mobile phones for the past 7 years. If you read up on Treocentral or pdaphonehome, you will see what I'm talking about and more. There is lots of "device love" to read through, but the pissed people are there. I could go through the firmware upgrades that do nothing, the load one application at a time for 24 hours, he "dial *228" crap from Verizon, but I'm just tired of it. It is a shame, because with a bit more stability, the Treo (and LifeDrive) would be killer products.
So, my replacement plans. Dell x50v w/ Dell GPS and extra battery deal (they appear to have a killer deal going on right now) and a Motorola e815, which Verizon will give me for free under "new every two". I already own The Missing Sync for my mac, so I'm good there. I'm thinking I can use DUN from PPC to e815 for email, and Skype on PPC where I have WiFi. (does PPC Skype work with bluetooth headphones?)
I don't doubt there is a bias here, but am I on the right track?? Let me know, I just have to push "Checkout" on Dells website and I need some help pushing the left mouse button.

If you are planning on getting rid of your Treo, I might be interested in taking it off your hands. Let me know. Thanks.

Im not sure if skype work with a BT headset, but I do know that you can hold your X50v to your ear just like anyother pda/phone and talk thru it using skype, yes that deal they have on dell is definately a very good, and I highly recommend that you push that left mouse button on the check out button, plus don't worry an Axim X50v and a e815 is a deadly combo, you WILL not regret your purchase. Good Luck!

Also All that should work, I have dell gps, but if you want support, Dell doesn't seem to support their gps package very well (I'm just quoting, I have never needed support).
Other than that, It should all work great! :approve:

i recently had to switch to verizon so I picked up an LG VX8100 phone with the VZW wireless broadband package. I think you can get the e815 with the same deal. Pricey I know, but I gotta say paired with the X50v as a bluetooth modem it really rocks. Speeds are great (300-400k) in LA and connecting takes only a sec. Its totally beyond compare to the old Cingular GPRS I was used to. I was going to get a XV600 PocketPC Phone, so glad I didnt because no VGA screen, no Intel GPU, no full WM200SE implementation, etc etc.
Much better to keep the X50v and use the phone as a fast EVDO BT DUN.

Well, I ordered a X50v on Monday - got notice that it has shipped on Tuesday night and then got another notice it would not ship until August 31st.
Being a first time Dell customer, this does not leave a good first impression.....
I've brieflly considered canceling the order and going with a Samsung i730, but it appears there are drawbacks to that device too, namely flakey Wi-Fi and Verizon disables Bluetooth DUN. On top of that, I'm a display snob, and I'm assuming the VGA screen is worth the wait and a separate cell phone.
