Am looking at X50v and could not find this (or perhaps I'm simply dense) on the Dell site. Hope someone could help me with the following:
1) The x50v has slots for both Compact Flash AND SD, correct?
2) Do folks have any opinion about which format (CD vs SD) can be more quickly & reliably accessed by the Axim? Is there any performance difference between the two?
3) Finally, any preferences from you all on which to get? I'm thinking of 1 to 2 GB and was thinking about SD as it seems that CF slot can be used for other devices as well.
1) Yes..
2) well there may be a performace difference.. but as a user you'll find it hard to notice
3) I'd consider what type my camera uses... It's always handy to have some spare film... and CF is available in Big 2GB+ sizes

1: The CF Slot can use both Type I and Type II cards along with a host of other accessories. The SD slot is also SDIO compatible so ou coud use SD card size accessories as well.
2: SD is slighty faster than CF benchmark wise but there is no noticable difference in actual use.
3: Get as much memory as you can afford. It's amazing how easily one can fill up any size card once you actually have it.
Welcome to Aximsite Wucky!

I'm guessing the answer should be "no", but want to be sure . . . is there any memory max in the x50v? For example, could we go with 2+ GB??? (most PC chipsets have a limit on how much ram the system will recognize . . . don't know if PDAs have the same)

First, the memory is not RAM. It's actually Flash memory and is treated more like a hard drive than RAM. It only stores files long term and is not used to store currently executed instructions. Because of this, you can have very large cards in the Axim with no problem. I have heard of 4GB+ for Compact Flash and 2GB+ for SD. I have not heard of any limit to the size of the flash cards.
I think the only limit at the moment is how compatable they are with your wallet.
