X50 mid-range. Photoshop accessable?(also other APPS)

Hi all. Well, this being my first post I wanted to make it semi-usefull. I am planning on buying the Axim X50 mid-range bundle, but a few questions have popped in my mind. I searched around for about a half hour, but with out luck did not find my answer. I am curious. Is it possible to install Photoshop (7 or CS) on the X50?

And if that is possible, I am assuming the X50 is capable of housing other windows based programs. Where/what types of software - be it games, or apps - is the Axim X50 able to support? I will most definatley be using this for DVD and MP3 playback on my long and boring breaks between classes at college, and will be using it for note taking and memo recording during the painstakingly long lectures.

Aside from that, what games can it support? The spec's overpower the PSP, aside from the lack of a few obvious issues (no UMD/controllers not made for gaming on X50). I used to run Counter Strike on my first computer, which was a 500 MHz POS, so Im guessing it would be possible on this also.

Where can I get games and apps for this. I am a full time student, so my cash flow is obviously weak at best.

Thank you for any and all help :) :approve:

Don't think PhotoShop is available for PPCs, but there are lots of FreeWare and Pay Apps available. For both Photo Editing and Games.

Try: Handango and TuCows.

is your friend!

You need apps specifically written or ported for the Pocket PC to run on it so Photoshop is currently not an option. If cash flow is an issue then check out the site for freeware recommendations and discount vouchers or special offers and google for "freeware ppc" and this will throw up alot of options. There is alot of good freeware out there and there are plenty of threads with recommendations just search generally on the site or specifically if you have something in mind.

Welcome to the site!

There are plenty of games available for your Axim but nothing like counter strike to my knowledge. It all depends on what other games you like to play. There are some stickys in the x50 forums that have games listed.

Pocket Artist is probably the closest thing to photoshop on the Pocket pc. It's a bit pricey (but nowhere as expensive as the real thing)

Nope..
your 500mhz CPU is stronger than the X50v. Remember that we are talking about ARM processor here, and not x86 like the one in the computer.. 100mhz arm and 100mhz x86 are COMPLETELY different. This is also one of the reason why Windows programs can't run on the PPC. It is also because of the OS.

You asked what type of software? Any, as long as it is made to be ran on an ARM ppc.
The X50v is perfect for school, and for boring moments. I always watch Anime during my french class ^^.

If, however, your main use will be to play, the X50v is not for you... You should go with the PSP instead...
BTW, PSP and PPC are completely different. PSP=Dedicated game machine. PPC=Work machine/Utility/Tool. While the PPC is perfect for small puzzle game, the PSP is a way better gaming machine...
It is up to you to decide: a knife, or a Swiss Knife?

Welcome to the site & as most folk have mentioned already....You need to get a hold of software specifically written for the PDA.....I would really recommend:-

www.handango.com

www.pocketgear.com

www.sbsh.net

www.pdamill.com

But to be honest, there are lots fo software, its just a matter of finding it both freeware and licensed

i use my ppc all the time logged into my home (or work) computers (terminal server or web-based remote desktop), running photoshop, illustrator, or quark. once you have the bt keyboard and vga cable, shell out the $20 or so to get nyditot and use that pda as your work terminal! whether you have cable internet, or 802.11 to that baby.. you should be fine! i currently use se_vga when im only using my pda in either of the graphic apps too- so you at least have some room to work with.
