Extremely newbie question about the X50....

Am traveling a lot and have admitted to myself, finally, the need for a pocket PC, primarily to complete my thesis while I'm on the road, which is going to be a lot longer than I expected. I was told by several people to grab the X50, but I need to be sure of something first.
My needs are simple - I need to be able to transfer a pretty large word file (600 KB) begun on MS Word 2000 (9.0.6926 sp-3) to the X50, and then back again to my desktop and so on.

Will the formatting be all screwed up each time I open it? Is there a way to install the version of Word I have on my desktop to the X50, or am I stuck with whatever version is preinstalled on it?

Primarily I just want to be able to transfer my word file back and forth without having the formatting all screwed up each time - is this possible?

Thanks in advance...

Search for an app called TextMaker. It will save your formatting (and soul!)

EDIT: And here it is -> http://www.softmaker.de/tm_en.htm

If you are going to be doing some serious wordpro.. or looking at real word docs you might want a bit of 3rd party software.

Textmaker is a VERY good wordprocessor (even Microsoft recomend it!) and Clearvue has a very good word viewer (but you can't edit anything with it)

And if you have the cash then go for the X50V (instead of the standard X50)

Depending on how you plan on inputting data to your Word doc while it's on your PocketPC, I might actually recommend the X30 instead.

If you plan on also purchasing an external keyboard to carry around for inputting data, then I highly recommend the X50v (if you're doing a lot of text entry, you'll probably prefer the extra screen space that VGA gives).

But if you're looking for MAXIMUM portability and minimum baggage, you might be better served with the X30 and a special keyboard available for it called the SnapNType, which is a mini-keyboard that attaches to the bottom of the X30:
SnapNType

Good luck whichever way you choose!

Some of them. It certainly supports tables and some other features, but I would imagine it's still a far cry from the desktop word formatting potential.

Is there not a special keyboard for the x50v?
