I've tried both vBar and Magic Button, and they both show the same problem:
When I mess about with my WLAN settings (Setting button, under WLAN Utility), both of these programs just freeze up, and I can no longer click on "OK".
The only way to restore functionality would be to do a soft reboot.
Is there a known conflict somewhere?

I think this is a 'known issue', certainly with Magic Button, which does sometimes freeze up for some users when using the settings menu (which cannot then be closed, as you experience). I've not had the problem for a while, but don't know why it's stopped - I did a hard reset (for other reasons) and it's OK now.
If you still have problems, how about using another piece of freeware: PHM Keys (http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/)? This is slightly different, but allows you to map one of your hardware keys to act as Alt-Tab, which makes it easy to switch between programs without using stylus or screen taps. I find it really useful.
Where can I find out more about this "known issue"?
Does it only affect the Axims, X50s, X50vs or WM2003?
I'm guessing PHM Keys will work without problems, as it doesn't overlay the OK button.
The Task switcher that comes with WM2003 also works fine, probably for the same reasons.
But I'm really after a program that will do what the two programs mentioned do.
It's a known issue with utilities that cover up that top bar. The easiest way to get out of the WLAN settings is to tap on the Enter key in the software keyboard. I used to have this problem but now it's gone as well. I'm using A03 with Wisbar Advanced; it may be the updated version of Wisbar or the updated ROM I presume.

I use to have the same problem, now I'm using GSPocketMagic is free and the problem is gone now

I have A03, so it's not that! :)
I'll try out your tip of using the Enter key. Thanks for that.
I tried SmallMenu (not the shareware SmallMenuPlus) but each time I load it it operates once then when I click the start icon a second time I get the old menu back again but the battery state icon is still in the top bar so something is still active. If I set the option for the SmallMenuPlus version it stays but I'll have to register it eventually. Is this a fiendish way to get you to part with $7 straight away?
It takes two taps to close a program, and two taps to switch!
.. and thats bad (alt+tab takes a few clicks too)? it takes very little memory and works fine with wi-fi. why bother with installing some 3rd party stuff that'll take up more memory and has compatibility issues? :rolling:
I use it with spb pocket plus so I close current screens with the top-right close button.

Actually vBar doesn't take much memory at all (21 kb). An alternate way to get out of WLAN settings is to manually terminate the process via settings. But try ENTER on the keyboard first.
I personally would steer clear of smallmenu, although the functionality is not bad and it does not have the issue in this thread, it is not free and if you don't uninstall it just right, it really screws things up. In fact uninstalling it may have had something to do with my BIS failure, but not sure ...
