HI,
The Gapi driver is a good job but it's same as pocket tweak 2k2 for
the Toshiba E740, so,so. The problem is the hardware and the os. Toshiba
makes everydody unhappy in 2003 because they don't give and update
for the E740 to W2003, a 850 can$ machine ! The E740 work only with
for pocket pc 2002, very slow as X51V+W2005. If Dell don't give an update
to the next os, the clone of the Toshiba E740 is born.

Ive just bought an axim x51v, if tcmp and tomtom5 works greatly, that's not the case of morphgear or pocketsnes (even worse).

Without the GAPIhack (2.0a), morphgear (2.3.0.2) manage to work but with glitches and a low speed. With it, the sound work but the image freeze like a pause and only change when using the stylet.

PocketSNES on "emulamer ftp" don't work at all in any mode on my PocketPC.

But, if anyone has new info/hack for this WM5 config, i'll try again

Keep up the good work, i still "have a dream that one day..." i will be able to play tales of phantasia on a vga pocket pc with a gameone bt pad

I don't we will ever see a GAPI tweak on WM5. The devs. are just not interested in it anymore.

Waiting for next PPC device with faster VGA gfx...

Either that, or the developers just haven't upgraded to WM5 yet. Give it some time; WM5 devices have only been available for several months.

Hi all,

I just installed the alpha version of GAPI. Great work.

Maybe it's my imagination, but general apps run faster with the GAPI service enabled.

I also have a VERY basic question. I apologize for the stupidity. What is the point of this hack; I mean, what does it do? Speed up graphics? Force files to use the 3D card in the axim?

Also, I've noticed that a number of my games (Pacman, Snails, etc.) have extreme artifacting with the service enabled. Doesn't matter which options I set. I know it's in alpha, but I just wanted to report it to the author just in case he didn't know.

Thanks for all of the hard work. Your work is just one big example of what make the Axim worth having!

As far as I understand it, it's a replacement implementation of the GAPI (game application programming interface) that uses specific hardware optimizations specific to the XScale (and possibly the 2700G?). The implementation provided by Dell is either very poorly or quickly implemented or they are using some generic ("one-size fits all PDAs") driver. You won't see any benefit in the "general apps", because they will not be using GAPI.

Unfortunately, I had to turn the service off for some games (Pocket Golf Mini--ooo I love this game!) because of massive incompatibilities. However, I'm looking forward to using it for other games that work with it

hey guys,
I am a pretty new user of the x51v and recently downloaded pocket snes and nester. nester runs and sounds GREAT, but PocketSNES looks great but the sound is like on fast foreward!? any help would be greatly appreciated!

I use PocketSNES that is MADE specifically for the x51v that uses our built in graphics accelerator.

Look in the thread which has everything that takes advantage of our axim's 16mb video cards.

a quick PS to my first reply. I installed Picard's gapi whatchamajig, it did nothing and now I cannot uninstall it or remove it? not a big deal as it changed ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Just thought I remembered someone asking if an x51v user had tried it. I have and.... Nothing! Thanks again.

I have a Axim X51v, does the X51v have an optimised GAPI or would we see better results from this tweak? Is the source code available for the GAPI tweak? I would be interested in porting this for the X51v if it would be still useful.

Can't speak for the X51v, but a X50v running WM5 cannot use the tweak properly.

It runs, but as soon as the device goes into GAPI mode, the screen doesn't update. You won't see the game at all.

The tweak gives massive performance improvements to n0p's PocketSNES build, as well as Warfare Incorporated. More GAPI apps would probably benefit as well.

I would highly appreciate it if someone were to fix it for WM5 use.
