I did the vga.zip hack for OzVGA earlier today and it is running very stable on my x50v. One of the things I noticed was that the banner on the Owner's Information screen was missing - I figured after reading this thread to make a copy of the myinfo.192.gif in the \\Windows folder and rename it to myinfo.96.gif. I now have my banner back. This was really the only issue that I had (so far).

Its too bad that the Owner's Info screen only displays a 640x120 image accross the top and doesn't let you put a background accross the whole screen. I wouldn't mind skinning it as well!

Anyone figure out yet how to get the QVGA keyboard back up under full VGA? That lill B&W thing looks ugly against the pretty VGA screen.

Thanks to all who did the hard work to make this easier for the rest of us!

A few questions for a newbie to true VGA (using v51v version A01):
1. will it boost the quality of all/most or just some software? In particular, I am interested in how it will effect powerpoint (microsoft version) and then using mirror mode for projector presentation.

2. with WM5 there seem to be mixed results in setting it up but it seems to work. I am confused about the process of loading it. From reading the posts I find there are 2 different ways of doing it.

a) true VGA (ie. using ozVGA):
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...l+VGA+Icons%2A
or: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...irtual+Display

b) using forced VGA (ie. a japanese forced hi res VGA): http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconVa...upertino/2039/

Any tips on the pros and cons would be helpful. Thanks

It's unclear to me how these tools are used with wm5? does it help change the resolution of non vga aplications in wm5?

Be sure to run sdkcerts.cab first or you wont be able to see the icons, and then run MvrTrueVGAx51v.cab.

To get back to QVGA mode just go to Start > Settings > System > Remove Programs and remove MvR TrueVGAx51v.

After the soft reset you will be in QVGA mode again, BUT you get errors appearing from gwes.exe and device.exe. If you turn of error reporting you don't see them and they don't seem to have any effect. Maybe some else out there knows why this is happening and can suggest a solution.

Cheers

Dude Markvan...VGA is great and all. However, after I used your .cab file, my eyes hurt after looking at my screen for two minutes. Everything is way too small. I tried increasing text size to fullest; however, it wasn't enough. So I had to uninstall it.
Is there anything I was missing? I am a noobie when it comes to true vga. It just sounded really cool. Help...if any.

Hi There,

Unfortunately there is probably not much you can do. The size text and other graphics appear on your screen would depend on the OS and how specific programs were coded, and in most cases they were coded for a QVGA screen resolution and not for True VGA resolution. We are just lucky that they work mostly with a True VGA screen as well.

Cheers

It tested fine in TrueVGA mode on my x51v.
Thanks Mark, your .cabs are truly a time saver :approve: (and probably saved me from bashing my face into my keyboard trying to get VGA)!

This works without any issues on my x51v (A06) so far, I also had no problems with uninstalling/reinstalling as a means to switch between modes. But once in true vga land, you don't go back (unless you need glasses )!

I am having trouble with true VGA mode.

I unzipped ozVGA files onto my CF Card, and switched to ozvga mode with defauilt settings. In this mode, I am not able to open some applications like PIE and 'picures'.
So I had to switch back to se vga mode.

Am I missing some setting, which is not allowing me to run these applications?

EDIT:
X50v, WM 2003 SE, no applications like SPB Pocket Plus, no Today screen plugins running

aximix,

You need to copy some other files to your PPC. I've written a program that will do this for you, you can download it from:

Is there any problem using ozvga etc. without a card, and just put it in internal memory? I'm also a noob to all this. I have an x51v, A06. Thanks.

just wanted to mention, there was a pay-for utility mentioned in the post... there's an excellent alternative to the program called just simply "resource hacker". it's completely freeware and works excellently:

http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/

(this is a replacement for Heaventools Resource Tuner)
