I'm not sure if this is a VGA question or a Mortplayer question but here I go: I want to use the VGA skin "Mypod" for Mortplayer. Do I have to run my axim in true vga mode or will Mortplayer automatically switch my resolution to vga once I install the skin?

I don't mind change as long as I'm not around when it happens.

Your device is *always* running in VGA mode.
Old QVGA only applications are simply "zoomed" to VGA (pixel doubling).
In Windows' default mode, VGA is used to show everything in a higher resolution but in about the same size. Which makes sense, because the display doesn't get that much bigger and not everybody has eagle eyes (ever tried 2048x1536 on a 14" monitor?).
"True" VGA uses QVGA resolution on the VGA screen, by which everything gets smaller, but allows to show more.
As for MortPlayer: The skinned areas (i.e. the main player screen, selections, etc.) are shown (almost) equally in both "real" and "default" VGA, because it wouldn't make much sense to show a QVGA skin with lots of empty space around, or a VGA skin with huge buttons and tiny "real" VGA fonts.
The dialogs are partly optimized for "real" VGA (e.g. lists show more entries in the small font), partly they just fill a quarter of the screen. It'd be too much efford to resize all dialogs to look equally in both modes, and if one wants tiny fonts, he'll get them at least there... ;)
If a QVGA skin is used, the images are simply zoomed to double size, but all texts (except a few contained in skin images) are drawn in VGA resolution.

Great! Let us know when you make it available for download.
Can you explain to me how the whole dll files work? Did you just have to find the correct files with the required icons in and rename them? Or did you have to put the extra icons in yourself? If you did, how did you do it?

Thanks for any info you can provide.
Cheers

OK, it's available here, I followed Menneisyys instruction and advices, with the only difference that now (for WM5) the dll must be signed or they won't load.
Think I really screwed up my dell axim x50v 2003se. I decided to install ozVGA, put it into my built in memory, then hit ozvga button. Soon after it reset and i was now displaying an awesome resolution (small start menu and font). And that is the last time i was able to access ANY programs. I keep getting the warning: "No program memory available. Tap Start > Settings tab > Memory, stop programs that did not automatically stop, and try again." Thing is that I dont have any programs running, nor can I run them, nor can I access file explorer to eliminate the ozvga program.
What can I do?? Would a hard reset (dont want to lose data) restore orignal ozvga mode?
excuse me for being the resident dumbass, but i still do not understand how to use VGA mode most effectively after reading this article :(.
as you may or may not agree with, i think it's a bit much to have to soft reset every time you want to go between vga/standard. is there not a way to specify which programs you would like to be vga? also is there a way to make the default mode default, yet make the today screen still 'true vga'?
i admit, i did not read your entire article very well, but a lot of that has to do to the fact that my head was spinning after like the third sentance :S
