Even the resource DLL's could be buggy (resources that could have been renamed in the final version, new resources could have been added, etc). ;)

That's right - fundamental resource changes (added/removed/renamed resources) like this, however, are much rarer than simple bugfixes/changes in executable code between versions. This is what I meant.

I'm going to step away from this hack I think. ctitanic has made it clear to me that I'm doing more harm than good for the community by passing hacked files around.
I hope someone smarter than me can sort it out soon.

So far the only progress that I've made is to boot Axim X51v in 480x640 with all kinds of images/icons glitches. :) It's not that bad as on WM2003SE without 96.dll resources (ActiveSync & File Explorer should work) but still is far from perfect.
I have a QVGA PDA Upgrade ROM, I just can't find a way of getting files out of it. If you know how to do it and want to help - write me to zakharovoleg@yahoo.com
Thanks!
Oleg

Hi Oleg, so you are planing an OzVga release for WM5, that's a good news. I'd like to have a look at this problem but I don't have any WM5 vga device yet.

Wow! lots of reference info that I'll have to read several times to properly digest & understand.
Many thanks for the obvious amount of effort you put into this, and I agree that this should also be listed under the Tutorial section.

Aaarghhhh!
Please place a note at the beginning of your post to not edit the regisrty to change the resolution unless they are ready to follow through the entire process! There is no way to change it back immediately, which gets rid of most OEM input methods.
I had to learn the hard way.

I tried OzVGA also on my X51v.
it worked without copying the dll's but when I coppied over the DLL's it froze on startup. the only fix was for me to hardreset and reload it all.
Guess I'll steer clear of OzVGA for now.
