Start->Settings->System->Brightness will let you control the brightness. I don't know of any way to control the saturation, but their may be a hack out there. Check Tweaks2k or Pocket Mechanic maybe.

Yours is not doing anything unusual. Even on the lowest setting, my x50v is too bright in a low light situation. It seems to be a consistant "problem" that does not appear to have a simple answer.
Most ebook readers will let you change font sizes, font colors, and background colors. I've set the background to black or dark blue and the text to yellow, and that effectively "dims" it rather well for reading in a dark environment.
If I change the registry, then after I switch off the x50v and then switch on, does it remember the last value?
Sometimes I hope there could be some program to set up the saturation so that I could enhance the Green color, or adjust it as I like.
In my oppinion the screen performance is the only disadvantage of x50v against Hx4700. If we could find out a way to adjust it well, it's really a perfect PDA. :)))
