x50V's showing up wiped over the weekend.

Iv gotten 2 reports so far from users who state their x50v's are empty and wiped after the battery drained over the weekend.

I dont know how their doing this because it hasent happned to me and i consider myself a heavy user.

Im assuming their slacking and not charging the units to full before they try to use it a whole weekend without a charge. But how long should they get of hybernation before their unit is cleared?

Is this normal?

I find with a full charge friday, my unit starts hybernating on saturday and still has its information when i come in to work on monday and cradle it.

Does having multiple open running applications drain the battery faster than none?

Yes, having more apps open will drain the battery faster. A PPC is never truly off, as being off would stop power to the main memory which needs power to maintain the information stored (called volatile memory).

Since the Axim turns on at midnight every night, leaving applications running could cause the Axim to not turn right back off, but instead stay on. The battery would then drain to the point of a hard reset.

This is just one possibility.

Is there software that will close unused applications automatically to prevent this? Or would that in turn be another application that keeps the processor alive and draining battery.

Becided instructing users to regularly clear running applications, what should i do? (Sometimes i just want to hand some of them a pen and paper.)

Your Axim came with the program called Switcher Bar installed on it. You can get to this from the settings menu. This app will appear as an icon at the top of the screen and can be used to close all or just the active program.

I recomend adding a shorcut for this to the startup folder so it starts even after a soft reset.

Great tip, thanks!

On a side note, whats the diffrence between an application and a utility? For example which does a calander plugin fall under?

They are all applications. Utilities are generally considered those applications that let you tweak the system itself. Applications are those things which are "productive" and have some output. SwitcherBar is a utility--it lets you close running applications. Pocket Word is an application that lets you create documents. It's a very fine distinction. Plugins to the Today screen can be in either category, I suppose.

I added the switcher bar shortcut to startup folder but the art isnt loading. If i click on it you see the art for a split second. Otherwise it looks like below. Thanks for your terrific help so far!

So when you click on the white box next to the start menu does it open switch bar? There may be a problem displaying the icon. I had that happen a few times where the icon would disappear but if I would tap on the screen where it normally was, it would load for me and let me close out programs. I quit using it and now i use wisbar's program that closes out running programs.

yes it works as the switcher bar, but the art isnt loading, and it lags my Axim terribly now, like to a frame a second. Closing and reopening switcher bar resolves the issue. I guess i wasent ment to auto start quick launcher.

For whatever reason my X50v is NOT powering off should it get turned on in my backpack...I wake up only to find my Axim wont wake up and the battery is dead and that everything is gone. :realmad: Freakin stupid design. :realmad:

I think 72 hours was the magic number. After axim shuts down for low battery, it has 72 hours of battery to maintain the power to the RAM before complete data loss.
