Unable to obtain server-assigned IP address

I get the following message whenever the x51v is in the dock. What does it mean exactly?

"Unable to obtain a server-assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in Network settings."

I tried what it suggested, but it caused wifi to stop working.

Your Axim probably tries to Sync over Wifi and then tries to
obtain an IP address from DHCP server which you don't have.
Try to disable "sync over wifi" and sync through USB.
