Infared and Bluetooth are available from "Beam File" This sounds weird but this is how WM5 works.
And this works great for task, calendar items, etc. And I can beam any file to my X50, but it does it through the OBEX file transfer profile. This is not the same a the File Transfer profile.
On my X50, I can set up a File Transfer connection and can drag and drop files right from Windows Explorer onto my X50 (and vice versa). With the X51, you can only send one file at a time per connection with OBEX (though I can only get it to work from my X51 to my X50, not to my PC).
jared, the X51v is using Microsoft BT driver, keep in mind that if you update your X50 to WM5 you will have the same problem. It seems like Dell does not have any other BT driver compatible with WM5 at this moment. I´m sure that later on a patch is going to be available with a new BT driver WM5 compatible and a new BT Manager. Take in consideration that other companies like HP has not released the update waiting for drivers WM5 compatible.
Is installing an application on a x50V (WM 2003 SE OS) in Builtin Storage (BIS) functionally the same as installing in FlashROM on a x50v (WM 5.0 OS)? Would the startup and operational speed be the same? If that is the case, then using BIS storage is very noticable slower than RAM, and that would suck with daily operations.

Basically, yes, it's the same thing. You got a very good point of comparison.
If I upgraded my X50v to WM5, will I be able to go back to WM2003SE?
You should but the upgrade is not available yet so I'm afraid that nobody in this forum can answer this question for sure, unless he/she works for Dell. ;)

What about downgrading my X51 to WM2003SE?
I do think I'm going to keep my X51 and hope and pray that either an update fixes many of these problems or that developers find ways around many of the software issues (especially the soft keys). As I play more and more and adjust settings and install software, etc. the speed of the X51 is just slightly slower than the X50. And I'm sure persistant storage alone will probably be worth the upgrade. But for right now, it would be nice if I could downgrade to 2003SE until software support and fixes are available. If not, the X51 is working OK for my needs.
If you are willing to take a risk, just go to Dells web site, download the latest ROM for the X50v and try to install it your X51v. ;)
Do not forget to tell us how it all went.
well WM5 introduces a new concept. problems you are facing now were predicted long before its arrival. so you'll have to live with for the time being. things WILL get better as developers will be designing keeping WM5 in mind.. or maybe there will be WM5 SE? ;)

That's what I think too. Too me is not a good idea at all to go back to WM2003SE. So far I can live with all the so called "problems" of WM5.
Thanks for being honest. Regardless of how helpful persistent memory might be, if the Axim runs slower because of it, it's a real problem. Given the lack of WiFI synch, the extremally annoying softkeys, and the embedded menu's, it does seem better to stick with WM2003SE (unless a real majority of X50 users report they actually WM2005.)
I like how this post says "I am not a pocketpc expert" and then goes on to list some very technical pocketpc things. I don't even know HOW to use the bluetooth I have :-p

Agreed, WM5 suits my purposes. Hey CT does your VGA hack work in T2K2 for programs such as Acrobat reader. I'm a registered user but wanted to check WM5 support for your program before I install it. Can you advise? thanks. :approve:
well as they say in tech, "if it aint broken, dont fix it..."
WM2003SE (x50-series) runs perfectly okay - while WM5, the new kid on the block, introduces quite lots of problems... and up until M$ get its act of fixing things, or up until the 2nd-generation of WM5s come out; it would still be my x50v with WM2003SE...
btw, what can a fully-loaded/fully-customized/fully-tuned x50v cannot do that a WM5 x51v can??
