Let me preface this by saying I'm new to PDA's. I support them a little, but have never owned one. I have a X51v arriving on Tuesday and my plan was to sync it where ever there was a wireless connection available. Reading this review it sounds like that's not possible, but the person reviewing on pockepcthoughts.com says he was able to do this. So is it possible? If not, what are the ways you can run Active Sync? Please, please, please don't tell me the only way is through the cradle.

Using Exchange server it's possible synchr via wifi. But not with your Outlook in your PC.
Hard Reset. Just how did that happen? Perhaps during software development?
Well, so far that's a mistery. But I have seem those unexpected hard reset in many forums and in many people. I got my first one in an iPaq 36xx. I was just taping the screen and BOOM! It happened. The next time was using my Toshiba e740. With this one was many times. Some due to a faulty battery lock design, some because I was testing some OC utilities for some of my fellows programmers. Next was my h2215. The same thing. No reason. In my ex h4700 never happened but I lived all time worry about to lose some data. So, the X51v and WM5 for me is the best option.
Until now, all the reviews that I have read point to problems in the OS. To say that the X51v is a bad machine is the same than to say that the X50x is bad as well.
Read my post again and count how many of the points are relative to WM5. ;)
There's nothing wrong with the X51v hardware. However, it is only available with WM5 and Activesynch 4.
With the X50v, you have the choice to either "Upgrade" to WM5 and Activesync 4, or stay with 2003SE and Activesync 3. As it stands, I think a lot of X50v users will choose to delay before "Upgrading."

That's a smart move. But... for how long do you think that you will be able to survive in that way. My guess is that you will survive as long as Dell will support the X50s with 2003SE. ;) But eventually they will stop any support for those devices to push users toward WM5 ;)
In another hand. I have survived two ROM upgrades and usually, the upgrade CDs are available for a limited time, after that you wont be able to upgrade your device. Keep this in mind because I think that I have seen the word "limited" in the Upgrade CD page already ;)
This may be a dumb question but can someone post a screenshot of the outlook desktop? Just got the x50 and have not been able to get my calendar items to my Axim. Installed the disc with Outlook 2002 but I can't find it on the PC. My items show up on the Axim today screen but not the calendar app. Read posts about working with Outlook to solve but cannot find.
I did order my WM5 upgrade CD from Dell because persistant storage promise more RAM available to run programs, and in hopes that the new OS would support VGA better. In another forum I read that the rendering performance of the x51v is actually better than the one of the x50v, i.e. in line with the x50 non-v.
The biggest reason for me to go with WM5 is if they fix the 'extra dial-string modem commands' option when setting up a bluetooth dialup modem. In wm2003se, that field is limited to too few characters for what I need to make a connection to my mpx220. It looks to be fixed in the emulator, but if it's really fixed for real, then come to daddy.
I have an x50v with WM2003se and Im pretty satisfied with it and regarding the sucky battery life, I read that the x51v runs twice as what the x50v does at all CPU speeds. Thank God for Mugens new 3300 mah extended battery :) I think I will stick to my x50v (which I got for ~$275) loaded with a 6gb CF and soon the extended battery instead of spending 400-500 bux for 128mb more ram and the buggy MS WM5.
