Lior, for me I simply placed a piece of tape on the top of the Compact Flash card with an extra bit sticking out about half an inch. ...
You guys must be using microdrives. As for the solid-state flash memory CF card, you can use your finger nail to pull it out. The end edge of the card sticks out a little bit for your finger nail to grab on.
well, i was reading an article in PC Mag the other day, and i was thinking - with the help of Card Export 2 for PPC, why dont you load app your external media with "pocket-able" apps like Firefox, BartPE, etc., etc. as well as your personal settings...
in this way, if you find yourself in a net cafe or something, and would want something more "powerful" than an axim; you plug in your Ax in the PC (acting as USB drive) - effectively re-creating your "desktop"
as one poster said, "if you have that much space, youd really get creative"

I can put a movie in there or 300 Mp3’s but again,
I can use my 39.99$ mp3 player for that purpose.
That's an okay solution if you don't mind carrying around two devices when one will do the job. Plus I almost exclusively use Ogg Vorbis which most dedicated portable players won't recognise.

I'm sure it's just because the mechanism would take up too much space, which is at much more of a premium than in digital cameras. Microdrives can be a bitch to extract but I've never had a moment's bother pulling out my CF card -- the little notch in the top of the card is all-important for that, microdrives for some reason don't have one.
I only have 3 GB of removable memory and it is not enough. On my CF card are the entire maps of Australia for turn-by-turn navigation, complete geo-referenced street directories for Melbourne and Sydney, geo-referenced topographical maps for the entire eastern half of Australia, and usually a sub-2 hour movie encoded at about 700 kb/sec. On the SD card are various programmes, a whole bunch of Ogg Vorbis music files, JPEGs, various backup files (e.g. fromSprite), PDFs, Word docs, Excel spreadsheets, and with the advent of WM5 I expect to carry several PowerPoint presentations too. If I can somehow free up some space, that is.
I have two 512 mb sd cards, hardly enough space for me. First card is for a movie or tv episodes and a text doc or two, second one is for music. I plan on getting a 1 ro 2 gig CF.
I have a 4gb CF card and a 1gb SD. I use the 1gb SD for TOMTOM navigation and maps, POI's etc. The 4gb CF is used for Work-related files, backups, MP3's, Movies etc. etc. The multimedia files such as MP3s and Movies soon eat into your available storage space. If it were available and if the costs were not prohibitive, I would ideally like something like a 20gb CF card, but these are obviously big IFs!!! :approve:
O.k.
I admit that it might sound strange but I hear a lot of talking about 4GB, 6GB micro drive
And I asked my self more then once what are you people doing with this huge amount of data?
I have 512MB SD card + 1GB CF card.
All my softwares goes into BIS (and still I have a lot of free space over there)
Other stuffs like GPS maps, Sprite Back Up files and log files goes into SD. (and I still have a lot of free space over there )
Then we have the 1GB CF card.. I can put a movie in there or 300 Mp3’s but again,
I can use my 39.99$ mp3 player for that purpose.
So what are you guys doing with your free space?
One more thing,
It seems like pulling out the CF card required some strain.
Sometimes I even use my stylus to pull it out.
How come Dell never thought about an “eject” knob like we see in the digital cameras?
Lior
Reply: it seems that all the programs that I load into my axim are in internal memory. Nothing has been placed on my 1 gig CF card which is almost empty even though I have only one meg left on on internal memory. How do I turn the CF card over to the machine for programs -- I have huge medical database programs, even creating links to the CF would help me out. Any reply would be helpful to jhdoc@nventure.com
Hoagje1 - if using 2003se, when installing a program, active synch will ask if you want to install into default memory. Click "no" and a drop-down menu will appear. On the drop down, you can pick Main Memory, BIS or CF/SD card. MOST, but not all, programs will run fine from the card.
If you're running WM5, I'm sure someone else can help.
