Axim x51v Display - Uneven brightness
Got my new x51v on Friday. I love it, except I noticed that the screen is dimmer on the right right side than the left. Is this due to the way the backlight is set up or do I maybe have a defective unit? Does anyone else notice this on their x50v or x51v units?

I have an x50v, and the brightness is evenly displayed; looks like you may have a defective unit.

Same here. The X50 series PDA all have very evenly distributed backlighting.

I was just about to make a similar post (bad search skills!)

My backlight is dimmer in the bottom right corner, but I only really noticed it since I've been using uBook with the brightness at the lowest setting. (I thought the same area looked weird with normal use, but couldn't put my finger on it.)

Should I be getting a replacement for this, or live with it? (Like with Dell's fpw2005 TFT, which has backlight leakage at the corners.)

definetly get it replaced. You only have 21 days for a brand new unit replacement. Dell ships replacements overnight.

Just out of curiosity, when you get a replacement, do you have to send everything back, or do they just replace the actual Axim?

Thanks for the feedback...I think I'm going to call Dell and get the ball rolling on a replacement as I plan on using this for at least a couple of years and it will probably bug me more each day I look at it. The light falloff isn't horrible, but enough that I noticed it. I'm kind of bummed though as it's my first VGA PDA and also my first Dell PDA and I'm eagerly putting it through it's paces right now.

Thanks again for your replies...

They send you a new unit. Then you send the defective unit back to dell in the box the replacement came in. Shipping is prepaid by dell.

First off, this should have been posted in the x51v forums, but this applies to x50, etc. anyway...

Well, I got my replacement from Dell and the thing looked great and I was a "Happy Camper" . After about a half day I noticed that the screen was again dim on the right side on this new unit.

It ends up that the Axim is docked too close to my 22" CRT monitor and is causing a "gaussing" problem. I've never heard of degaussing an LCD monitor so I'm asking Dell for another replacement. I've had other PDA's (Viewsonic V37, Casio E-100) docked in the same position over the years and never had this problem.

In any case, sitting your PDA too close to your monitor can be bad news for these hi-res screens, so pass the word around.
