x51v and bluetooth headset not working
I have the logitech freedom bluetooth headset which i hear works wonderfully with the x50. The x51v will form a partnership with it put there are no services listed. I called Dell's "tech" support where a lady explained to me to plug in my gps...after much time explaining to her a headset was not a gps unit, she had no idea how to help.

Does anyone know how to get a headset to work with the axim x51v

I've bought a new plantronics voyager 510 1.2 bluetooth headset that supports hands-free and headset profiles, and works fine for microphone and sound on my windows xp desktop.

On the axim 51v though, I've only got as far as you; associating with the device, but no services available to use, and 'set as hands-free' is grayed out on the hold-click option.

I don't know whether it's just the new WM5 bluetooth stack is missing headset and hands-free profiles, or something wrong with my headset, but it does look like there's problems with bluetooth headsets and the X51V's.

If anyone has managed to get a bluetooth headset working, I'd love to hear about it!

I guees everyone runs into problems in one way or another. Let me ask the first question: when you purchase the headset, does it says as what OS are being supported?

If not, you would need to call and chekc first with the headset supplier. Chances is that it is only supported till PPC2003 / PPC2003SE, and not supporting WM5.0 yet !!...And Axim X51/X51v runs on WM5.0.

Better to call up Logitech and see fi they have a readily available driver for you to refresh ...

Headsets are not operating system based... they all work with the same drivers...a least to my knowledge all do...

*Update*
Using some information from the msdn about the wm5 bluetooth stack and the registry keys associated with it..and compairing that to the registry yes on the axim 51v.. it looks like dell purposely deleted all the keys associated with the hands free profile...

I emailed dell about this and am now going through the process of trying to get in contact with someone there that knows anything about bluetooth or axim.. in other words someone not reading a help manual back to me....

side note: first email I got back they thought i was talking about a plug-in headset...eventhough i said bluetooth like 5 times.

Missing bluetooth audio profiles
I am having the same problem as everyone else with an IOGEAR headset. Dell's tech support is useless. After waiting 45 minutes to speak to a technician, they had no solution and no clue how to proceed. These are the same people who shipped my first X51v without a product CD. They couldn't provide the CD or a download so they had to send me a new unit.

I am fed up with Dell. Unless someone comes up with a hack in the next couple of days, I am going to send this thing back!

I tried replacing some of the MISSING registry pieces I found in the axim x51v that were listed on the msdn site( they had some registry information for developers on how the msft bluetooth stack worked) but it only spoke of a few pieces of the related registry. It looks like dell haphazardly deleted random registry keys...for the hell of it I guess. Or perhaps msft is up to its shady bluetooth tricks and for some reason handicapped this version of wm5. Im curious why no one else is talking about this issue like other on other sites. We might be the first ones to explore this problem. After a somewhat forceful conversation with dell, they transfered me to people who actually knew something about the hardware...but claimed they just dealt with the hardware. I told him about how the msdn site lists headsets should work...and further dell says it has 1.2 bluetooth. I told him that was blantant lie. He said he would contact the right people and they would get back to me in a weeks time. COme this thursday if nothing has been done ill call them again.

True, but they're advertising a feature that's very largely broken, and worse, their tech support don't even understand the question.

Presumably the broadcom bluetooth stack isn't working on WM5 yet, which is why we're stuck with MS naff default stack, and there may be later ROM updates with the broadcomm stack. That I can understand.

I also understand that the native WM5 stack doesn't have support for AD2P, but WM5's basic stack does have support for at least headset and hands-free profiles - so it looks like Dell have actually broken a number of the few things the bluetooth-lite WM5 stack does support.

Fortunately, bluetooth on the x51v isn't a necessity for me, merely an advantage, but it is irritating. If I wanted to listen to music with AD2P headphones though, I'd be pissed.

Is there a way to get an unmodified bluetooth stack to take precedence over the current Dell-Crippled one? I cannot get my x51v to bluetooth dial

10 days on the horn with Dell & MS and MS was working for me... No BS! they even slammed them on the hold times to get an I-Dot! I mean tech support on the line. I am furious. I even aksed the sales dude if it could pair w/ any 1.2 BT Headset... of course he said... yes! no problem. huh! my ass. In the end Dell's x51v developer team decided to disable the HandsFreeProfileOn and many other BT stack uses in WM 5.0 and MS said that all the BT Stack options are there but the OEM i.e. "Dell" is in control of that not them. We need a solid hack to enable the BT stacks and I'm sure Dell & MS have an update coming but we need the fast track to wireless Mobile Media Player 10. Please help us Hack Gods!
Oh! did I mention that after 2.5 hours, I was routed to the "Help Desk" at Dell and for a 1 time or 1 limit problem solve fee of 49.99, this lady had the man with the plan, the man with the answer to all my prayers, he would have my problem fixed in no time. Yeah for 49.99... I paid almost 600.00 for my x51v and I don't plan on giving Dell another dime. Sounds like Dell is trying to make a little extra these days because of the Pocket PC smartphone craze and Dell's lacking to offer a PDA phone... Yet... I love my x51v but I don't like to be lied to just to make a sale. please help us all!!!

Yeah when i talked to their tech guys, who claimed they just put on what ms gives them,I pointed out the missing registry keys and directed them to the msdn site with the some of the missing registry keys. They pleaded ignorance and still blamed ms.

Make no mistake about it... Dell has misled and wasted our valuable time on this issue. I think all x51v owners need to write or e-mail Dell's satisfaction department as many times as it takes to get some results. If the x30 and up are capable of this BT feature and more, why was the latest greatest Axim on the planet left without it? And MS is NOT to blame for this issue, I can provide documentation as well as a Managers direct number to call if anyone wants to hear it for them selves. Remember, we all paid out of our pockets for this thing and if your like me I love it for the most part, but "principles" come into play when your misled or taken for a fool.

I think we all agree that Dell dropped the ball on this one. Now the question is - Can we hack the x51v with an unmodified bluetooth stack?

I don't use many of the bluetooth functions either, but I want that to be my option, not Dell's

Hackers - how about an app or a patch?

Although not happy with what's been posted, I am happy that I'm not the only one with this problem... thought I was stupid/crazy there for a bit. I've been patient with my x51v - more and more software is being updated to provide support for WM5, but... come on, Dell... this is rediculous. I had a separate problem with my Axim & they were giving me the run-around for several days. When I asked for a process to return the Axim I thought I'd get "oh, so sorry... here's (a trinket in exchange for your loyalty) or (here's a solution, or planned solution)" - but all I got was "ok, we'll send UPS to your house to pick the unit up. Sorry you're sad." Wow. They really *don't* care anymore!
