x51v ram problems???
does anyone know why my x51v only shows it has a total of 49.47mb of total program ram, 19.45 in use and only 30.02mb free after a hard and soft rset? i thought it was suppose to have a total of 64mb of ram?? any help or explaination is apprecieated.

thanks

according to www.mobiletechreview.com

Quote:
"Windows Mobile 5.0 caches operating system files heavily to improve performance, and uses a significant portion of available RAM. At boot, 49.47 megs of RAM are shown as available, and another 19 megs of that available memory are used by the OS. That means you'll have about 30 megs out of 64 available to run programs. That's certainly adequate even for power users, but it's surprising how much of that 64 megs is used by the device."

but why does it only recognize that it only has a total of 49.47mb and not 64? i am not very computer literate so a simplified explanation would be helpful.

thanks

That part of the RAM is reserved for the Operating System and is not available to the user.

I'm lucky to see 20 free with a bare minimum of my apps installed on my x50v, so 30 should be more than enough for any app you run.

I suppose if it really bothers you, you might be able to get this upgrade for the x51v since it worked on the x50v:

I only get 27MB on reboot. Is this normal? I have SPb Pocketplus with several plugins installed.

Yea, and salesman on my first computer said I would never fill up that 20mb MFM hard drive either. How times change!!!

Persistent storage... what happen on the new OS (WM5.0) is that it will write data to the ROM (not RAM)everytime you turn off your PDA.... RAM on your Axim 51/51v in actual fact would not be used considerably... what you see is what you got.... that sound about right....

It seems like WM5 offers less memory than WM2003se since some WM2003se devices can get near 61MB of free ram.

Quake 3 was just ported to PocketPC and it requires 64MB of ram just for the program itself to run: http://www.noctemware.com/q3ce.html

that is bull , dell says it has 64mb of ram but it only finds 47 total, then the operating system uses 20 without running any programs and leaves me with less than half of the 64 mb to work with. i want to know what genius came up with this idea..... i want my missing 15 mb of ram! dell or microsoft needs to fix this bug.

I ordered the WM5 upgrade for my x50v a few days ago. Now I really consider to cancel that order. After boot my x50v has over 38 megs free. One of the reasons why I wanted to give WM5 a try is that I was expecting more available RAM, not less! None of the reviews I have read even mentioned this. All in favor of MS and Dell.
