x51v = big bug?
Guys I was ready to jump on the Axim bandwagon but due to all these issues I am having second, third, and fourth thoughts. Why would dell release such a buggy product? I would be annoyed as hell if my axim had all the issues mentioned, especially locking up after an hour or more idle. Please tell me you agree with me

Any new product with a brand new OS will work differently to an old product with and old OS. A lot of the problems are due to software that needs updating to run on wm5. Give it a couple of months and those issues should be less and less

This is pretty much the reputation for dell, isnt it? Same story with their desktops and notebooks.

not really.. check the forums.. the Ipaq wm5 users are having a worse time, and the Imate K-Jam users have similar issues (worse until they realised there was some hidden anti-virus software installed on their units)

So it's more wm5 in general than Dell/HP/Imate

That and the new Activesync 4.0 which is probably causing more problems for people than anything else. I can get it running fine on some computers but not others. And I really miss the internet pass through feature.

When I ordered my X51v I knew I'll face lots of troubles. In fact the website for my most commonly used programs says it loud and clear "not compatible with WM5" and they are working on it. AS-4 glitches I think most likely related to MS security concern and users lack of understanding the settings for smoother synchronization. It's like NYC now. We want security and it comes with lots of hassle. People need to learn how to use their product safely because like it or not this is the future.

So, I'm not at all surprised with all these complaints.
But the best thing the consumers (including me) can do is to report problems systematically so that it can be addressed and resolved over time.

Lots of people are happy with their Dell purchases. I am sure its the new OS that needs some tweaking as there is not much difference between the x50 and the x51. X50 people are very happy with the product. Check the reviews on this site, seem to be positive. I would not focus just on the negative, unless that is your wish.

I think anytime you live on the bleeding edge you have to expect to have some issues. I also think most of the people jumping to the X51v like I did fully expected "some" issues because of the new Windows Mobile 5 OS.

Of course "some" is a relative term....

don't worry about it.. Dell will probably release a new ROM which will fix these minor bugs. and shifting to WM5 is not a bad idea since its the future.
