x51v ActiveSync 4.0 woes

Dear Axim Powers-That-Be,
I have read thru many posts; some apply, some don't. But I'm stuck & I am turning to you: my "Higher Authorities." For several years I was running a basic Axim x5 & syncing with my desktop (Dell Dimension with XPOS using Outlook 2002) No probs. Sooo....I went "big time" & took the plunge & ordered the x51v. Got it delivered. Unpacked. ActiveSync 4.0 was on the installation CD so I did as directed & loaded it. Sounds good? Not really. Every time I put the Axim in the cradle I get the ActiveSync "spin" & eventually the message on the Axim re: repllog.exe problem. Did soft reset. Did hard reset. Same results. Called Dell. Did soft reset. Did hard reset (am I repeating myself?) Same results. (in other words, I can't sync nothin'!!) They want to replace the Axim itself, which is ok with me, but I have fears of deja vu. Is there a (relatively sane) solution to this mess Any help, ideas and/or insight would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Activesync 4.1 was leaked...this might solve the problem( this is really just a shot in the dark but sounds like it wouldnt hurt to try)

if you have problems obtaining it email me at mcmanndavid@gmail.com

First plug your PPC in the cradle and then go to Start/Control Panel/Network Connections and see if your Axim shows up as the last connection, something like "Local Area Connection 3" it should be listed as connected and shared. You should also check in Start/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager and look under Network Adapters. If the last device shown has an error this means the correct drivers were not installed. Right click and select uninstall then remove your PPC. Reinstall AS 4.0 then restart your computer. Start activesync and select 'Get Connected' and then plug in your device.

If it still is not connecting then you need to look at your firewall. Even if you don't know you have one you probably do. Windows has one built in and Norton Internet security does also. So look at your firewall settings and make sure that Activesync allows all internet access for the following:

ActiveSync RAPI Manager

Microsoft ActiveSync (this appears twice in my firewall settings)

Oddly enough if you just allow Activesync but not the RAPI Manager 2003 devices can connect but WM5 devices cannot.

Thanks for the suggestions.
My Axim is showing up as Local Area Connection 4/Connected/Windows Mobile-based Device. There is no "shared" reference. I checked Device Manager/Network Adapters & there were no errors.

Checked Firewalls. Norton allows for ActiveSync Rapi Manager & Microsoft ActiveSync (yup-it appears twice in my firewall settings too) & I checked Windows Firewall settings. Windows Firewall has exceptions for ActiveSync Rapi & Microsoft Activesync.

Sooo...I'm still at the same place. I'm connecting, but not communicating. I start to sync & when I get to the calendar it hangs up & I get the "repllog.exe" error on my axim.
Any other ideas?

you shouldn't run two firewalls as they may confilict with one another. Turn off the windows one and reboot the pc. One of my kids tried this on their pc an it was almost working at a crawl. if this doesn't fix it you can try turning off all the firewalls and see if it works so at least you can eliminate that as a problem.

Thanks for the suggestion; turned off MS Firewall, rebooted - no change. I have Mobile Phone Tools (BVRP Software)installed on my desktop that I can sync my Motorola v551 cell phone with. I have the software installed, but the USB cable is not connected to my desktop at all (keep the cell phone stuff in its own container). However, the Cingular GPRS shows up as a seperate VPN. Could this be causing a conflict? Or, is the "repllog.exe" message on my Axim an indicator of a faulty unit? Thanks, again.

I just returned my x51v to Dell after a week of trying unsuccesfully to get the thing to sync. I could explore the Axim, and install software, but it would not sync -- like you, I'd get the activestink spinning disk, and the thing would just hang.

I'd like to see this bug worked out -- the Axim seemed like a really nice machine otherwise.

On edit: I also have MobilePhoneTools installed so I can sync outlook with my motorola phone. I wonder if this does something to the conduits? Have you tried uninstalling MPT?

My x51v will not sync either. After convincing my boyfriend to letting me install sp2 on the shared pc (we're sharing until we get a house. There's only room for one linux machine and one windows machine under the desk), I was very dissapointed to find that my axim wouldn't sync.

I checked under Network Adapters, attempted to fix the errors, and all of a sudden the pc recognized it, before having installed anything. Go figure. Now, I can browse but can't sync. Ugh, this is frustrating. And I'm not using MobilePhoneTools, btw. You're not alone. However, I was able to sync it with my work pc, before I had done a hard reset. I'll find out tomorrow if I can still sync it with that machine, assuming that my boss hasn't found out that I installed active sync on there - they're nazis about external software/hardware.

Edit: WooHoo!!! I got it to work. Um, I tried to sync it with the exchange server at work. Yea, I neglected to remove that setting when I was trying to sync it (after "fixing" the errors via network adapters). Removed the server settings, and tada!

Upgrading the X50v from 2003 to WM5 resulted in the inability to sync with my PC. None of the Dell or MS or AximSite recommendations have helped. Can't roll back to 2003 unless I can sync... nothing works. Removed ActiveSync 4.0 (including registry entries) and reinstalled AS3.7... still no joy... can't sync with WM5 so I cannot access the X50v to roll back to 2003.

Looks like I got a brick on my hands.

You have to have 4.0 or 4.1 to downgrade. 3.8 and down wont connect to a ppc with WM5 on it...

It wouldn't sync w. 4.0 or 4.1 - I tried 3.7 in a futile act of desperation.

Try this...

Make sure all firewalls are turned off. If you running ZoneAlarm or Norton this can be hard to do at times. If you can get all Firewalls off, try to resync.

The reason I say this, I have done 3 X50 to WM5 conversions. Mine was a piece of cake. The other two were a bugger to do. It was all because of multiple firewalls. The first one had windows firwall & Norton turned on. All ports were blocked to Network calls. Active sync would not work. I turned Windows Firewall off and for the life of me I could not get Norton to let go so I had to uninstall it. As soon as I did that and rebooted, all was ok.

The second one had Windows, Norton and ZoneAlarm. Same problems I ended up doing the same. and got it to work.

You know the worst part of it is, None of the folks needed to have a software Firewall anyway. They all were behind a hardware firewall. A big waste of bucks.

Anyway, All PPC are running fine on WM5, but what fun it was to get there....
