X51v + ActiveSync 4.0 = BSOD

Whenever I try to sync via USB I get a BSOD (Blue Screen) under Windows XP SP2 after I plugged in my PDA (IRQ not less or equal).
The strange thing is, it works via Bluetooth. Has anyone have a clue what might be the cause of this? Thanks in advance.

Figured it out myself. It was Kaspersky's AVP and its "Online Networtk protection" feature which caused the errors.

There is a tutorial on Microsoft's mobile web site that walks you through setting up several popular antivirus programs that have known issues with firewall compatibility vs. wm5. This cleared up my connection problems with Trend Micro's PCcillin. In a nutshell you have to set up all applicable application files as exceptions in your firewall program to prevent connection problems.

I have Kaspersky's Anti-Virus and Firewall and can't seem to get it to work even after turning off the firewall protection.

Kaspersky's is not listed in the Activesync troubleshooting tutorial however the applicable AS files are listed. If Kaspersky's gives you the ability to set these files up as exceptions in the firewall application this workaround should work. I have no experience with Kaspersky's so you will have to rely on your own familiarity and user's guide to set this up.

Many AV and firewall apps run in the background even when you think they aren't. This workaround works for me with Trend Micro fully operational so I suspect it will work the same with yours if correctly configured.

With KAV it isn't the firewall that is the problem, it is the Antivirus part. Read the second responce in this thread from ggloin: "It was Kaspersky's AVP and its "Online Networtk protection" feature "... I had this same problem and fixed it by removing KAV (I replaced it with NOD32), but that was before this thread started (it would have been nice to just turn off the "online network protection" instead of uninstalling the entire package...I might still go back now that know which part to turn off.)

I have been wrestling with this all afternoon and evening. Put the mentioned files as exceptions in KAV and disabled my firewall from starting up; no joy. I did manage to sync once, but could never do so again, getting BSODs and memory dumps galore. Disabled realtime monitoring in KAV; no change. Re-installed AS, system crashes immediately on restart. I also got a WSOD after the 8-hr battery charged-up, which I cleared with a soft reset. I think this product and OS are not near ready for prime time. Mine goes back tomorrow!
