Activesync v4.1 running non-stop

excuse me, could u explain how I could do what u suggested about the registry change?

I just tried the as toggle but the as on my ppc seems to be back again.

incidently, i'm not actually so annoyed by the auto firing of the as but more importantly, my ppc seems to be dragging its feet to startup. is it caused by the as or something else.

some feedback: I just tried memmaid and the ppc's response seems much improved though...well at least for the next 14 days of trial.

any views? thanks

Looking for help urgently

Hello...I'm in a fix now and urgently needs help.
My immediate problem was the slow response time on my x51v which as everyone knows is pretty much a dog. Anyway, I suspect it has something to do with the ActiveSync coz it seems to come on relentlessly.
To cut the story short, I read some of the tips and fixes and first tried the "ActiveSync Toggle" but didn't seem to work for me. Subsequently, I tried bluffing the PPC with the fake exchange server as suggested in the forum but while it completely stopped the autosync activation, I now face a new and bigger problem: I can't sync my PPC anymore!
I deleted the moble device relationship and even went to the extent of reinstalling my AS 4.1 but according to my connection settings, my device is now no longer detected. Strangely, when I physically unplug or switch of my PPC, I can still hear the feedback sound from my desktop. What am I doing wrong and how can I get back my sync? HELP...anyone?

Work-around worked

Of all the gyrations recommended for this annoyance this one seemed most reasonable. The only downside is that I have to click the "Sync" button to start a syncronization manually. No big deal. The end result is that there is no longer the constant re-syncing going on. Thanks.

ActiveSync 4.0 turns on automatically/Processor stuck at 624MHz ******
There were several posts indicating ActiveSync turns on by itself when the Axim is not cradled and eventually drains the battery. It never happens to me. Circumpvention provided by Invid:

Disabling automatic syncing (and activesync startup) did. The new activesync is a dog, even worse than it was on WM2003SE and makes my x50v almost useless while running. I will list the steps to disable it. Note that you will still be able to sync, but AS will no longer start up on it's own.

1) Start up AS on your x50.
2) Tap the menu tab/soft key and tap "Add Server Source"
3) Configure a server source with a dummy IP address, user id, password and domain name; these do not have to be real
4) Once configured you should have another sync source show up on your main AS screen...continue on.
5) Tap the menu soft key again and you should see that the sync schedule option is no longer greyed out.
6) Change your schedule from a timed automatic start of AS to manual under both fields
7) If you try to sync now, AS will try to contact your imaginary exchange server and that will take forever until it times out, so you can now delete the exchange server from your list of sync sources. Your changes to the sync schedule will remain and will survive soft resets too.

If you have a switcher app running (like vbar) you will find that when you close AS it will now stay closed and you should see a corresponding increase in speed.

Post some feedback and let others know if this worked for you. I am not really sure if this is what sped up my x50v but I know that it no longer slows down to a craw on a regular 5 minute schedule and AS only starts when in the cradle or when I start it for BT syncing.

So many times the fix to your problem has been posted and there is even a "sticky" note. Just do what it says at the following link, and your Axim will be cured. http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=112638
Do it and problems are gone. :)

undefinedOK, so I just chatted with a tech support guy from Dell who thinks that this is a hardware issue and not a software issue. I even referred him to the sticky mentioned here and a few other threads with "fixes". He seems to still think that this is for sure a hardware issue and that it only affects "a few axims". They are sending me a new axim in the mail in a couple of days, which I am being assured is going to be tested on site prior to sending it out. I'll update you guys. Here's a copy of the transcript.

02/04/2006 12:06:30PM Kiarash Rowhanian: "these people suggest that the problem is actually an active sync 4.1 problem"
02/04/2006 12:06:51PM Kiarash Rowhanian: "and that the program is by default set to sync every 5 minutes"
02/04/2006 12:07:02PM Kiarash Rowhanian: "unless the axim is set up to sync with an exchange server"
02/04/2006 12:10:10PM Agent (Richard_0196830): "I understand, that's not true, we all have practically worked on it, the power issue is an hardware issue, we just try couple of troubleshooting steps to fix the issue, if that does not work, we will come to know the status of the unit."
02/04/2006 12:10:40PM Kiarash Rowhanian: "ok"
02/04/2006 12:10:45PM Kiarash Rowhanian: "so a new unit is the answer"
02/04/2006 12:11:07PM Kiarash Rowhanian: "?"
02/04/2006 12:11:18PM Agent (Richard_0196830): "Yes, I also researched it in our resources, I am sure that the unit has gone bad, it has to be replaced."
02/04/2006 12:11:27PM Agent (Richard_0196830): "I apologize for any inconvenience caused to you."

UPDATE 2/8/06: Received new axim. uninstalled everything. Updated to Activesync 4.1 (prior axim sent came with 4.0) and guess what...still turns on byitself. Conclusion #1: Not a hardware issue
Conclusion #2: Dell Tech support staff are idiots with scripts.
Gonna try contacting the super geniuses again and see now what their solution is.

Update 2/9/06 Spoke with the supergeniuses at Dell support again. Long story short: "Oh, Sorry. Guess it wasn't a hardware issue." Let me talk to my manager....Microsoft has disabled blah blah blah. Your only solution is to try the Micrologics ActiveSync Toggle program.

Only good news is Dell refunded me 30 bucks for the trouble.

Here is how to disable synching...

Connect your Axim to your computer so that ActiveSync is enabled. On your PC, go to your network connections and you will see one for your Axim. Right-click on it and choose disable. No more synching. Place a shortcut to this connection on your desktop and enable/disable when needed (ignore error messages).

It seems to me that many here are confused as to what the real problem is. Stopping activesync from syncing with your computer is not the issue. The fact that activesync continues to run as an active program on your handheld device after the program is shutdown is the problem. This causes a continual battery drain that can suck the life out of your device at the most inopportune time. To all you Dell owners--take heart--this is happening to my Cingular 8125 also so I doubt it is a hardware issue. I'll try some of the tips here as I can always restore to my previous state if I dork it up. Hpoefully someone out there in MS-land will find a good solution to this problem.
