I am having the exact same problem. I turn the device off and within 5 minutes, it pops right back on and syncs away. This is completely annoying and I can't find a simple solution anywhere.

However, what I did come up with until this is resolved...

If you go to the settings where you tell it what happens when you push and hold the power button, I chose the option that says "Completely Powers Off" and that completely shuts it down.

The only effect to its function this way is when you turn it back on, its much like you are turning it on for the first time (it takes a while), however all settings are retained.

Yea, looks like I should do that until I find a way to fix it. I read in the manual u can go to schedule settings and make it sync only when you tell it to....but on my desktop and handheld the schedule setting is blacked out.

Go into ActiveSync on your Axim and disable 'Mobile Sync Schedule'

I can close Activesync on the X51v and turn the device off and come back later and find Activesync running on the device.

Activesync is a part of the operating system, you can't close it. It's got a component that listens to the sycn port andif itsees data, it fires up the rest of Activesync automatically. But also check to see if your wireless setting include sync-ing on a schedule, that can also fire it up periodically. Check your mail settings, too, as it can fire it up on a schedule.

Maybe you can't close it on your PPC but I sure can on mine (and everyone I've had). If you doubt, connect to your computer via Activesync, Go to -> Settings -> System Tab -> Memory -> Running Programs, select Activesync and hit the stop button. Activesync will close and your connection will be dropped.

Furthermore, on my X50v it only launches itsself when connected to a computer but on the X51v it starts whenever it chooses and it has nothing to do with mobile scheduling because that is always turned off on every PPC I've owned and that's alot. I also have yet to set up an email account in the messaging application so I doubt its going after emails.

On the other hand, I believe services.exe or connmgr.exe is responsible for launching Activesync.

Unplug your Axim from the computer, open ActiveSync on the handheld, Go to 'Menu', 'Connections..' -- You will see an option for "When cradled: Synchronize all PC's using this connection: USB" -- uncheck the box.

Fine, you can tell the handheld not to sync when its in the cradle.. but how do I fire off a manual sync?

Its not a solution to tell me to change the settings each time I sync then change them back so that I can charge the unit in peace.

I have a JasJar running WM5 and ActiveSync v4.0. The same problem exist and the schedule is grayed-out on the PC and PDA. Anyone who knows of a resolution please let us know. Thanks

'ang on. As far I understand it there is absolutely no way in ActiveSync 4.0 to stop continuous syncing. This means that when cradled your device will regularly fire up and sync.

Check here if you don't believe me:

You could control the scheduling of syncing in 3.8 but obviously this was a mistake as it was as use to their customers, so Microsoft removed it in 4.0.

The teasing "scheduling" menu option you see in Activesync 4.0 is purely for WiFi syncing and the only reason it exists is that if you did have your transmitter on all the time it would suck power out if you PC kept on regularly syncing with your PPC.

You've got to hand it to Microsoft. Idiots can often screw up a good thing but it takes a particularly psychopathic sadist to come up with removing useful features in new releases just to remind you of their power over you as a customer.

My solution is particularly heath robinson. Instead of plugging my cradle into the inaccessible reaches of my PC backplane as I've pretty much done with every PDA I've owned since my HP95LX in 1990, I've snaked it round to my front USB socket. If I want to stop the regular attempts to sync I unplug the cable.

Good isn't it?

This stinks. Came here looking for a solution and it's obvious that no one has found one yet. I thought I was doing something wrong. I mean, here I am 40 feet under ground - no where near a computer let alone a connection and Activesync fires up on its own. Guess we're at the mercy of Microsoft.

X51 WM5 As 4.0

Nothing helps...

That's not the worst of it! Not only can't you control when it sync's in the cradle, activesync loads constanly even when there is no connection. :-(

It's a mess.....
