Odyssey Client crashes?
Anyone else seen this/know how to fix it?

Been playing with my X51v for a few weeks now. I'm liking it very much, but my big issue right now is the Odyssey client that comes with the device.

- Run unsecure wireless using the dell utility, device never has issues.
- The minute I enable the Odyssey client in order to make use of WPA encryption, device will (not immmediately) pop up errors related to odclient.exe upon resume from "hibernate".
- If you stop error reporting, the annoying messages stop popping up, but eventually (roughly twice per day) the device simply will not turn on, or turns on to a white screen.

Only a soft reset will clear the issue, and wireless will work fine for a time. Disabling Odyssey client does not fix the issue. Resetting the device, re-installing the apps will yield a successful working device without issue, until Odyssey is enabled again.

I guess I assumed that the Odyssey client is installed to ROM; you think it's removable/updateable? I don't see it in Remove Programs.

Seems like once I use the Odyssey client, it corrupts the device until I reset it and re-install all applications. Naturally, to say this is annoying is an understatement.

I notice that there's an update to the Odyssey client out there over what's on the device (4.04 vs. 4.02 on device, if I recall correctly), but I don't know how it would update an app that's installed into ROM. I'm going to try hitchhiker for a while and see how I like it, unless others have a better recommendation for an app that supports WPA encryption keys?

Um... I don't think the update install since the client is in ROM. Don't know that for a fact but I did try to updraded to 4.04 (been having problems connecting to our work network) and it wouldn't let me install....

Quick update: It did let me upgrade! My Odyssey client is now at 4.04.0.2144. Not sure if it will help with the crashes. Also, it isn't registered, I will try and get in contact with Odyssey to see how they would deal with it, it looks like though, we might have to purchase an upgrade license??

Hi!
My OC works but I cant use WPA/2 + AES.
I'm really upset because a Dell guy confirmed me per email that the x50/x51 can use it with the preinstalled odyssey client(4.02)

I installed the demo version of OC 4.04 also tried a previous 4.00 all from the Funk demo site.
On my x3 and x51v the same error message came up by the first start of OC: "sorry, you are not currently licensed to run Odyssey...."

The strange thing is when you look around in the unlicenced demos you can select WPA + AES and also WPA2 + AES.

Is the OC that comes with the x51v sort of a cut down version?
And how do you get those demo/trial versions to work?

thanks!

Push!

Did anyone get those 30 day trial versions of the Odyssey Client to work?

Till now I get no response from Funk.
Seems like they are not really intrested in simple endusers.

....
