Should I return X50v or X51v
Okay, I bought the X50v a couple of weeks ago at the Dell selloff price.

I complained to Dell about the power button not turning on the X50v sometimes and slight hiss on the speakers (I've since learned this is normal),and swither bar issues with Notes, so since I was within the 21 days, Dell shipped me a new one.

However, they shipped me the X51v instead.

So, with the 51v, I have:
- the power button not turning on (once so far)
- disappearing CF card (SD card also disappeared once)
- System froze on me a couple of times, after turning on

I'm just about to ship one of these units back....question is...which one should I ship back?

Thanks,

After hearing a lot of horror stories concerning the x51, I would keep the x50 honestly. I'm more than happy with mine.

The only problems I've had with my 51 dealt with incompatible software. Once I hard-reset and loaded only "proven" programs I've had zero issues. Only gripe is the MS BT stack- is stinks.

I am going to hold off on shipping my 51 back.
It has most of the issues if not all.
Power button, white screen lock up, etc, etc, etc.
What I don’t understand is why some are comparing the 50 and 51 as different units.
The only difference between the two is the model number on the case.
This is definitely a OS problem.
I’m not buying into the thought of these problems being the fault of installed second party applications either.
My first computer was a desktop 286 with a 20 megabyte HD with 6 megabytes of Ram.
And I still have some old programs from that era, and they work in my 3ghz Dell.
After dark screen saver; the fish try to jump out of my monitor they swim so fast!
Mavis teaching typing talks likes she’s inhaled laughing gas!
What I am getting at here is from my experience I have found most of my old software “has always worked” for me with new or upgraded operating systems.
You never see crashes and issues like what is happening with the Axim.
There is nothing at all wrong with the 51v models because they are the tried and true 50 model under a different name.
5.0 OS is the problem, and we are the guinea pigs for Microsoft and Dell.
Let’s see;
Dell is the biggest player as to which vender will be using 5.0.
I see kickbacks from Microsoft to Dell because of all the needless returns of their 51.
Why do you think Microsoft or Dell is not releasing the CD for 5.0 to its 50 owners yet?
We are the testers and victims for Microsoft and Dell – AND I WANT A CUT!!!
So why send your 51 back and take the chance of getting someone else’s refurb that went tumbling down the stairs.
Has anyone tried to install the older operating system in their 51?

No need to!!!!! Dell already has with the 50 model!!

My two cents.

I am getting a new x51v,I talked with Dell Tech Support online, and they went for the "we will send you a new one" in about 2 to 3 days. So I hope that Dell has been working on the issues and maybe getting some of them fixed!!!

I'd say return them both. I was lured to the X50v by the Intel (video) Inside, thinking this would be the perfect pocket DivX player. Jesus I couldn't be more wrong. The screen was totally hopeless when rotated to landscape. It's reflective, it glares so much it gives me headache, not to mention the black level is so light it's very frustrating for letterboxed movies. In the end the only way the screen can be used is the way Microsoft dictates it: portrait sized.

And about the shell. While the rest of the body may be scratch resistent, unfortunately the most vulnerable parts are the buttons. The power button is the first to go. On my set the paint came off after only a couple of months of use. Maybe I have greasy fingers, but that didn't happen to my earlier PDAs. And those rubber feets, dear God, those things melt like feces on the wall, and look like it too.

Bare bones X51's still have problems

My x51 is bare bones- i didn't load any software whatsoever onto it and I am having the "power on" problem, and the losing the SD card problem. When I went to turn on what should have been a fully charged X51 today, it is completely dead- soft reset and hard reset won't work. I am thinking the fact that it sometimes turns on by itself may have drained the battery overnight. Guess I'll find out when I go back to work tomorrow.
