not to be a turd but search the site before you ask a question, you might actually find your answer. But unfortunatly this problem has no real answer. The only thing i've found that actually corrects this problem is a HARD reset. Sorrry.
I just returned my x51v and ordered a Palm TX. The Axim seemed like a nice machine, but for the fact that I couldn;t get it to sync even a single time!
the same problem here. Activesync hangs, I can explore the device but not the windows directory. It hangs. It's f**ing buggy man.
In Linux you are warned if you use such a software. Its only for people whno like to live with the bleeding edge of beta stuff.
I had the same problem then i thought hey lemme shutdown my firewall. And bam now it works fine. I guess you gotta make an execption in your firewall to use this active stink program. Good luck all.
Well shutting down the firewall helped me for about 48 hours, now everything's like before...
Who the f*** writes such code???
I have had no chance at all to synch my Dell Axim X51V with Activesync and Windows 2000. Despite all tries, without Firewall and Virusscan, nothing. My solution: I gave the Dell Axim back and now I am waiting for a replacement with Windows Mobile 2003 OS. This is tested and seems to behave well.
Someone asked who is writing such a code? You can easily find it when you look for the Copyright and when you aggree to the license questions. I recommend not to buy such Beta devices before they are in use at least half a year or you like to pay for beta testing.

Most of the time the issue with not being able to sync has been caused by a firewall. It did mine and I was turning my firewall off and then on after each sync. I recently updated my firewall (the free ZoneAlarm one) and after installation and trying to sync it gave me the ip address that it blocked. I put that address into my 'trusted' zone in ZoneAlarm and I have been able to sync ever since. I would agree though, the code writers did not seem to do much testing prior to release or they would have listed the firewall as an issue to resolve and how to resolve it. Like wise why BT solves the reoccuring loss of CF and SD cards as well as stopping the 'Does Not Turn On' issue is another puzzle. With these work arounds however my X51V is working great and I am very happy for that fact. I just wish Dell/MS would have given us a clue as what was happening. It would have stopped alot of stress and frustration on users part to say nothing to their reputation. Just my 2 Cents worth.
in my case it was not a firewall issue. I could browse my PPC except the windows directory (which firewall can block a directory) I could install software, but synching was impossible.
There was also the hot battery problem and the white screen of death so I decided that was too much and returned the device.
I wasted too much of my precious time in trying to solve mistakes others have made.
One thing that I found in order to pinpoint the problem was to uncheck all sync options (in active sync window - tools, options). And then one by one add the calendar then sync. Add the contacts then sync, etc. There could be a conflict with one of the options. Mine was with favorites. I know how frustrating it is to not be able to sync, especially when in a hurry.

I did not even get to the point where I could choose the sync options. There was a green wheel spinning and a messagebox.
in german "Einstellungen werden gelesen" in English it is probably something like "reading settings" or so. This window was displayed until I took the PDA out of the cradle.
In the background I could browse the directories of the PDA and install software etc, but not from the Activesync window.
This is why I call this software passivesync or even nosync.
