Hello everyone, I just got my x51v and I have several issues I hope someone can help me with.

1. Active Sync. I loaded Active Sync 4.0 on my laptop and went to sync my dell to the laptop and nothing happens. I check to be sure that the cradle was connected to my laptop and that the unit was plugged into the cradle but still nothing. I was able to sync via the infared port but cannot with the cradle. I disabled firewalls on my pc but still nothing.

2.Running PIE and when I bring up a internet page and use the 4way button it does not scroll correctly, instead I notice that a box goes down the page through each one of the hyperlinks before the page moves on. Any Help????


3.I wanted to transfer some file from my Ipaq PDA to my x51v via bluetooth and the x51v see's the Ipaq but what do I do to transfer files. There is no program like they had on the x50v. Any help?????

As far as the x51v goes it is a nice unit and I like most of the features of the unit but with everything that is not working as of now I wish I kept my x50v. I also do not recommend going out to get one or getting the upgrade until the bugs are worked out.

1) Check you "Connection" settings in MS Sync and see if USB is checked. I doubt this is the problem but you never know. Did you install the Active sync before plugging in your cradle?
2) Mine works the same. I dunno seems fine to me. If I need to scroll I use the stylus, etc.
3) Not sure on this one. Just use a memory card for the time being. Frankly I think BT is overrated.

In my opinion after my initial settling period, I haven't exerienced any big problems with my x51v. I had the power button problem once a week ago- that's it. In judging Dell's past history, they should be releasing rom updates to address these problem - 1 to 3 months I feel.

I'm happy I ditched my x50v for the new model.

I loaded active sync 4.0 first but the only way I can use it is via infrared. I cannot use the cradle at all except for charging. Also why no wireless for active sync?

As for bluetooth, I can get to see my devices but no services! Which makes bluetooth worthless on this device.
I hope they will issue a fix to cover all issues soon.

Why did you bother to upgrade, the X50v will have wm5 after they release the upgrade CD the only differences between them are the 250mb ROm other then that theyre exactly the same ?

1. I upgraded from 3.7 to 4.0 when my X51v came and I have had no problems with it on my desktop with the cradle. I have Zonealarm as my firewall and I did not have to disable it.

2. Once the page is fully loaded I have no problems with the buttons and navigating the page.

3. To transfer from my X5 to my X51v I use tranfer them to the desktop and then over. Sorry can't help with the bluetooth yet.

ActiveSync 4.0 is working perfectly with my X51V. When I got the system I uninstalled 3.8 then installed 4.0. I'm syncing through the cradle AND bluetooth perfectly. Very very pleased with the X51V so far.


As far as BTm yep at first it reported no serveces reported, I then rebooted the desktop and All was well. Very happy with the system so far, just missing Avantgo which will not install but a new version is due out shortly. Not sure if I'd had a X50v I would have bothered trading but I came from a IPAQ 2215 and the AXIM is a HUGE step up.

Just loaded ActiveSync and I'm currently trying to sync my devise for the first time. It's been over 15 minutes and the screen still says "Installing and Configuring Programs and System Components" for Microsoft ActiveSync. Is it supposed to take this long the first time you sync or is something majorly wrong?

I got my x51v about a week ago, and put activesync 4 on both my home computer (XP) and my work computer (2k) and found that it only works on my XP machine through the cradle. I can not get either to sync through bluetooth, although all device see each other.

Has Microsoft missed the mark on bluetooth yet again?

It is my understanding that Microsoft left Wireless Sync out of this version of ActiveSync because there is no way to secure it, and since it is a security risk, they thought leaving it out totally would fix the flaw. Not a mjaor favorite of mine, but I guess I can handle a BT partnership in the short term, til they get everything resolved.

I have found out that the new 4.1 activesync resolves the previous issues regarding normal USB sync, but am still unable to use the bluetooth method. Actually I am unable to do practically anything with the bluetooth module that is currently available on the x51v

Looks like there have been problems with Active Sync 4....does using WM5 force you to upgrade ActiveSync, or does 3.7 work?

2. Appears to be a change to aid one hand navigation like a cell phone browser. It selects the links so you can activate them. I'm not particularly fond of this feature.

3. The x51 MS Bluetooth stack is very clumsy (and limited) as compared to the Broadcomm stack on the x50. Put the x51 in receive all incoming beams and try again.

WM5, specifically X51 requires using ActiveSync 4. It does not work with 3.8 which is the latest 3.x release. ActiveSync 4.1 has been leaked, and seems to fix many of the flaws associated with ActiveSync 4.0. However, 4.1 is only in Beta and some people have reported errors and problems with it. Until it is official I will deal with 4.0.

when your x51 is in the cradle is it firmly there? sometimes I have to tilt my x51 then it gets recognized and sync. note that it is charging the whole time but activesync didn't detect it till a nudge was given

At first I thought my cradle was loose and had that issue. Then I figured out that giving it a little extra touch actually causes it to softly click into the cradle, and then it is fine. Just don't push too hard.
