I was able to may BT active sync work for me too, the thing is Microsoft doesn't like third party software. When I switched to the MS driver, and used it's resident software, I was able to make it work. I agree with you that the X51V BT stack is inferior to the X50V. When scanned for services, the only two services discoverable from the X51V are the OBEX object push and the serial port. Can you find out what services are discoverable from your X51V?
As for the question to whether it's a good idea to buy an X51V NOW, my answer would be to wait a while, because I wish I did.
