X51 Issues issues issues net not connecting

Well I have been a non beliver up to this point, but after a couple of hard resets and a few soft ones I now think I need to call dell.

I can't get the axim to establich a link to to explorer, it pickes up my wireless connection, and i have double and triple checked I have it correct and it's reading, but I try and use explorer I get a "can't find that page" or "you need to set up a new connection error"

I have about 5 other minor issues like blue tooth turning it's self on once in a while, I lowered the volume on the screen clicks and the x 51 changes my settings back to default then back to my setting all the time so I just turned them off altogether. I've had the unit for about 2 weeks.

Anyone else seeing any of this?

Try switching from MyISP to WORK in the connection settings

I'm having this problem too. I've got my x51v so that it appears to be connected to my home network, yet when I launch IE and try to go to a website, I get: "The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again." Not sure what's not set right...
(Yes, everything's already set to "Work" vs "MyISP")

Mine works fine on both my home (DSL modem/router) and work WiFi networks. I might suggest turning off any firewalls momentarily to see if that frees up access.

EWL, I have the exact same problem. It says connected, i have antenna with halo and steady arrows, it totally appears connected, but yet I can't surf the web. May I ask what router you are using? I'm using Linksys WRT54G v.3 I'm so frustrated with this POS. Gawwwwd. Helpppppp!

Same Problem

I had the same problem. I telephoned Dell, waited a short 1.5 hours and they told me Axims won't connect to a network without certain configuration steps. They walked me through it. I don't for the life of me remember what they did, but it works now.

You've not really provided enough information for us to diagnose this problem... exactly what are your network config options, on both your router and your axim? What setup are you using?

My x51v works beautifully well with wi-fi both at home, at work, and all over town. I know plenty of others have it working perfectly as well, so I hardly think it's the unit's fault unless you really do have a totally duff example. When you're trying to set up a wi-fi network, the trick is to start with a very simple config... open access, not even WEP... and get it all going, then build up the config options you require one step at a time, checking it's always working as you go.

This to me is such a common problem on X51v. I have exactly the same problem. In fact I've have been quite successfully using my home network and observed the connect just stop and no more pages can be accessed. The situation then remains, without any mechanism to reinstate browser access.

I can/have despite no access to web sites....

a) I can PING my router (and get a reply)
b) I have an 192.168.2.x address
c) My WiFi Icon tells me I have a connection.
d) My Network is Set to "Work" instead of "My ISP"
e) My firewalls are up (and have worked quite successfully), taking them down doesn't solve this problem.
f) Encryption is WPA and again has worked quite successfully with.

The more I examine this problem, the more I'm convinced it is linked to Active Sync setting some kind of switch that prevents access. Something "kicks in" which stops access. The only thing that I can imagine that would kick in is Active Sync. Now that v4.0 prevents WiFi sync, I suspect something very "fishy" to be going on in the comms area on this machine.

The mulitude of Network and Adapter settings on this device though make these sorts of problems exceptionally difficult to diagnose.

All in all, it seems often the only way to get back up and running (if only momentarily) is to perform a messy "hard reset" and go through all the pain of re-instating partial PIM and data backups in a vain attempt to somehow get the machine into a stable communications and network state... only to watch the machine fall over again within a matter of days.

Some ISP's limit the number of devices that can access the web thru any one given account. Call and ask them. If this is indeed the case for your situation you need to clone your MAC address.

Try a hard-reset, but don't install any 3rd party apps, and see what happens. I can't imagine a hardware fault being this intermittant and blocking Net-side traffic while allowing LAN-side traffic through. And as for software, thousands of us here are using x51s, with exactly the same software as you, quite happily with our WLANs.

If a hard-reset does bring back your functionality without you having to adjust any router settings, I suspect you have some 3rd party app which is messing you up.

I had the same problem with my X51v not being able to access the web. It showed that it is connected to my home wireless but when opening IE, it would say "the page cannot be found".

But these two days of trying, i think i found a way to solve this, tried it twice to confirm that it would work. So share it here.

My home wireless is a SpeedTouch 570 wireless modem, so not too sure whether it is a generic solution. Try at your own risk.

1. Press the "DEFAULT" pin behind the modem. This should get the modem back to factory default.
2. Activate your wifi on the X51v. It should be able to see your network. Select it and enter password, if any.
3. Now, you should see that your X51v is connected to your home network. At this pt, if i access IE, it would prompt the "page cannot be found" msg. Just ignore it and close IE. Leave your PPC on.
4. Insert the modem installation disk on your PC/laptop and follow instruction to configure your modem.
5. After this, you should be able to access internet on both your PC/laptop and PPC. If you skip step 4, you will not be able to access internet on PC/laptop/PPC.

Hope this helps.

Update: I did a hard reset. Turned on wi-fi. Saw my Linksys WRT54G right away. I entered my Key in hex format, and I was surf'n the web. I'm using 10 character WEP security. Amazing, thanks guys. We'll see how long it lasts. I'm going to add programs one at a time conservatively and try to pin point was makes the x51v lose its connecting ability. So many people are having this problem, I wish it was more robust, but I do love my new axim. Graphics/screen are amazing. :) laterz
