Question White screen

I have the X51 and recently experienced the white screen on boot up. Soft booting solved the problem, however what would be the cause of this?

I've had this problem too, to restart it, try a soft reset and if it doesn't start try a hard reset : push the power button and the reset button at the same time and then release the power button... then cancel the hard reset, so you will not loose your datas.

I have the X50 as well. Does this really work. I thought that when you press the soft reset and power button together, you automatically got a hard reset; all data lost.

will fix it for now, but it will return most likely. I never had the problem until the wm5 upgrade

I'm just getting ready to buy...Dell's sale ends on the 10th (Canada). But I keep reading about all the trouble with the x51v's.

What to do? You people who have them, is this "white screen of death" as common as it seems?

Thanks for your advice.

I've got the same White Screen Of Death. Happens every time I put my X50v into the cradle when it's powered off. Have to do a soft reset to fix it. Started happening right after I upgraded to WM5

Hope it's a bug that will be fixed.

Dell tech told me to always have the X51V on before putting it into the cradle. The one time I did not do this I did get a the 'white' screen issue.

Second replacement Axim on it's way!

Well, I got an email that my second replacement x51v is on it's way to me today. The new replacement I received on 11/1, checked the version and it was still A01 when I thought it would be an A03. Oh well, I synced it up and it worked fine until the evening of 11/8 when I added some addresses to it at home and then turned it off. When I went back a short time later to get a phone number out of it, it was dead and I had to do a soft reset to get it going again. It then worked fine until the next morning, when I got out of a meeting and since I had added some info, I placed it into it's cradle to sync it to my computer and it turned on with the white screen of death. Another soft reset and an email to Dell, who isn't even questioning it any longer, they are just sending me a replacement once again. While it is a little frustrating, at least I can't complain about their customer service.

well thats a load of bollocks... I just received my first WSOD, and I had the device ON before I put it in the cradle... Dell support has no idea, probably only a few select techs (probably only a dozen at most) would know how to actually fix problems the rest are just henchmen/women....
soft reset and it came back fine... doing backup...

White screen here too: happens the same way.

Almost as if there's some kind of power surge happening that knocks out the CPU and/or power-management driver when the Axim's docked?

It's happening, it's consistent and this is an expensive device. So... let's hope Dell does something soon, as it's getting tired. Along with the memory cards going AWOL.

UPDATE: almost got a white screen just then with the Axim undocked. The screen built very slowly, but I got it working. Here's my revised theory...

In effect, when the machine is off, there is a non-backlit white screen (which is normal). But then I think that when Axim gets switched on, it puts the backlight on, but then can't start the graphics for some reason... maybe a conflict with ActiveSync that stops it stone-dead?

I took out my SD/MMC card and I haven't had a WSOD in 3 days. The only things I have on that card are media files.
