Graphics Corruptions

Don't know if this has been reported before, appologies if it has.

Running a X51V in WM5 and when surfing the Internet I get graphics corruptions when I scroll the screen. This results in :

a) "bands" of what looks like television interference (but static) across the screen
b) Icons get corrupted (each icon looks as though it has been flood filled with "interference"
c) The toolbars invariable get corrupted.

Guess what? A soft reset restores the machine.

Anyone else experiencing this? Any solutions/suggestions greatfully received.

finally! someone else with the same problem!!!

i have had this pb on my x51v from the start in september, and also had WMPmobile issues, so Dell replaced the unit. I determined that the same WMPmobile issues existed in the replacement unit and concluded that they were caused by some 3rd party software, so i returned the replacement unit, never thinking to try to see if the graphics rendering issue existed there too.

i am now trying to get Dell to replace this hardware again. However, if you are having this too, i have to wonder about a Firmware fix for it.

Incidentally, i can't reliably 'cause' this problem. It seems to occur largely with IE although it has occured with WMP too.

Have you found a way to generate it?

i will try to post a jpeg here later, as i don't know how to do 'screen capture' on a PPC.

I've been seeing that, too. I'm not sure of the cause, but I think it tends to happen more frequently on websites that have a lot of images or very complex layout. I suspect that some of these sorts of pages cause the GDI to poop itself and thus cause the display corruption.
For example, I was on Apple's Quicktime Guide site (don't ask) and it happened. I did a soft reset but forgot to navigate back to my home page in PIE. So, after resetting it when I launched PIE again, it pooped itself again. After going back to my homepage and then soft resetting once more, everything was hunky dory.

It doesn't happen that often, so I'm just hoping that this is another annoyance that'll be fixed by the magical and eagerly awaited ROM update.

I've had something similar, but on my software keyboard. With each tap of a key, the distortion disappears, but only in the space the key takes up. However, I'm running WM2003SE on my X50v.

i've observed the same effect. namely, poking around the screen when it's corrupted 'clears' certain areas, but leaves others corrupted.

closing, then opening apps does the same. but, in the end, only a soft reset will actually clear up the condition.

I had this happened to me with surfing on my first unit but not on the replacement, soft reset cleared it. Unfortunately I also returned the replacement unit for a full refund, it too was expereincing all the other issues people are having with the x51v.

did you use the replacement unit long enough to be able to say with some certainty that it did not have the problem?

does it happen after a hard reset ? do you have any software installed ? if it continues i think you deserve a replacement.

I saw something like this several weeks ago. Not so severe though. And a soft reset fixed it.

Well a soft reset always restores the graphics a hard reset ( I have perfomred that once) does not cure the problem.

I'm running the processor in "Auto" mode and wonder if "max performance" may be better.

My guess is that a machine replacement wouldn't cure the fix unless the graphics hardware is updated.
