Please Help!
To some of you this might not come as a surprize :) I canīt get Async 4.0 (or 4.1) to sync with my computer. I have tired all that i can find on the webb:
- upgrading to 4.1
- reconfiguring my ZLab firewall
- Uninstalling my firewall
- Hard reseting
- Now and then restarting my computer
- Checked my Network settings
All of this... and not even a glimps of a functioning machine...
I am getting somewhat annoyed with MS and a non functioning sync application (it has been around for quite a while, and still no remedy)
Could somebody please give some advice what to try next
I have a x51v

When you first put your axim in its cradle did the computer recognize it? Did it go through the hardware setup on your computer in the lower left corner? You could try plugging the cradle into another USB port.

I had the exact same problem when I first attempted to sync my Axim 51v to a second computer. If you are running Microsoft Office, the problem is most likely in a corrupted file in Outlook (2003). The solution is to completely uninstall the MS Office, and the Active Sync. Then reninstall the MS Office, get it up and running, then reinstall Active Sync. You can't run a repair on Office, you have to completely uninstall it. I've tried both ways.
This was the fix I was given by Dell Tech support, they even had a web site reference for it, but I've since dicarded the web site. If you like call Dell support, they are aware of this problem and the fix.
I know it sounds like a lot to do to get your Axim to sync, but it only took me about 20 minutes to get everything working again.
Hope this fixes your problem

Try deleting the partnership between your computer and the device and see if that helps. TO do this; make sure you are not connected, open ActiveSync -> File -> Delete Mobile Device. Plug is back in and see if that does anything

cdenaxim: the sync intarface is gray, because hasnīt ever got to sync. Could an old (pocket loox420) be haunting me? and if so how? And perhaps foremost how can it be cured? used activesync 3.xx (and tried 4.0) in those days, 6 months ago

Can you confirm that the USB interface is working? If so, also confirm that you have USB checked in the connection setting of ActiveSync. When you disable Zonealarm, are you rebooting your PC? Can you also confirm in Network Properties that you have an extra local connection? This should show up when you plug the device into your USB port.

I can confirm that my usb:s are working, usb checked in ActiveS. ZoneAlarm removed and reeboted (and several times after that :), and a "extra connection" shows up in network connections when connecting my axim to the PC via usb.

Ok, when you see the extra connection and you right click on it and select properties, the only things checked should be:
Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
Internet Protocol TCP/IP
If anything else is checked, uncheck it. Try rebooting your computer and then try again.

Ok, that is just wierd. With your device connected, can you goto a cmd prompt and type in IPCONFIG. Does it show both connections?

It shows my devices:
My ordinary ethernet and this
Ethernet adapter Mobile Device:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
Another funny thig is that it in the remote-ndis host settings, where I use server-assigned IP address, it gives my Axim the IP: 169.254.2.1
What is that, some kind of loop back address or something (sorry I dont know that much about IP traffic)

Ok, I'm at a loss as to why this is happening. BTW, anything IP that starts with 169 means it is an internal IP address. It does not communicate on outside networks.
What should happen is your device gets 2.1 and your new Local Connection should get 2.2. I am not sure if this connection uses this service but can you see if you have TCP/IP Netbios Helper enabled in your services and that it has started.
