psshutxp, x51v, WM5 full power off

Can one use the utility psshutxp to do an actual full power-off of the PDA? Even though I disabled ActiveSync the PDA is still waking up and spinning the microdrive which makes noises in a quiet room. If I was actually getting some use out of it I wouldn't mind the noise but when in standby it is just wasting battery and making noise.

In psshutxp, "power off" and "display off" seem to do the same thing for me. Perhaps there is a subtle difference in that display off keeps the applications running as if you were on. But I'd like to be able to do a full power off so I can use the "press and hold" feature of the power button for something else.

Although, fixing the microdrive and phantom issues would be easier so I don't wear my drive and waste my battery for nothing.

you have a x51v... you already have everything you need to do a full shutdown. Just go to your power settings and configure it so that holding down the power button does a full shutdown as oppossed to turning off the backlight. Psshutxp is an old product and was made before WM5 and it has no idea how to powerdown the device. In psshutxp, "power off" == "standby".

What drive? X51v does not have a hard drive; it uses flash memory. Also, how can a PDA make any noises? I think you mistaken the sound of your computer as x51v.

I believe he said "microdrive" which is a miniature hard disk designed to fit in a Compact Flash Type II slot. He said the microdrive is making a noise and not the PDA.

babbob, yes, that's what I used to do. But ActiveSync wakes up the PDA when on the cradle, turning it on. I'm not only worried about screen life when in cradle for a long time but also it is in my bedroom so at night it makes light. So the temporary solution is to either not leave it on the cradle except to sync and charge, or to make the "press and hold" turn off the screen (but keep PDA running). So I decided to do the latter.

I think I'll just have to wait for the next Dell ROM to fix the CF card and AS issues and stop being so damn picky ;).

Patrick: the noise is from my Hitachi microdrive. I bought my PDA to be an iPod+video+games+PDA+etc and so the "iPod" part is the 6GB microdrive that contains music and occasionally movies. It is normally extremely quiet but sitting right next to me on the desk I can hear it spin up in an otherwise dead quiet room. It quiets down after about 1 second of spin up. The noise doesn't bother me -- it is the fact that the PDA is needlessly wasting battery and drive wear.
