I get the following message several times a day on my 51v. The battery cover is secure and the switch to hold it closed is fully latched. Anyone else get this, or do I have a unit that needs to be replaced?
"Warning
The battery latch was opened! The system was put into sleep mode to avoid data loss."
Are you using the original battery cover or did you buy an aftermarket battery that came with it's own cover? I know on the X50v, some people who purchased non-Dell batteries experienced exactly what you are talking about, there are several threads about this.
If, however, you are using all Dell parts and you're positive that the latch lock is fully in the locked position, then there definitely is a problem with your hardware. I would contact Dell for a replacement.
Same problem recently. I have 2 batteries and alternate them when needed. I think frequent opening battery latch cause sensor malfunction. I am gonna call dell tomorrow. probably replacement is the only solution.
(All parts originally from dell)

Original equipment. Only own the original normal battery for now. I never open it except to try to make sure all is ok after getting a series of these messages.
Often (4 times since my original post an hour ago) when I set the axim down, it seems to jar something and I get this message. Occasionally I get this error without much motion, but usually I get it when I set it down.
The latch microswitch is just a little sensitive. Send it back if you want, but I (and others) just fixed this by building up the appropriate battery cover lug with a tiny piece of paper and a spot of blu tak.

Happened once in three months. I too was curious and waited for
a rerun. Nada, zip, never happenned again.
Using several, original equipment batteries, no aftermarket "stuff."
Don't forget to let us know if that works for you. I didn't realize this was such a problem with original Dell equipment now. I hope it's not an indication that their quality control is starting to go downhill

They probebly used somenew kind of sensor in the x51 series or windows mobile handles the message diferently
for example imidiatly report it or wait 500ms... makes a big diference
I use to get this error all the time with my dell 2200mah battery. It never happened with my 1100mah. I bought a sena case for the extended battery and I never get the error while the axim is in the sena case. I guess the case holds the battery cover snug and keeps it from moving.
