ok, here's my problem:

i got the axim sealed a week ago, hardware A00, rom A01. twice since then the device has randomly frozen. After i soft reset, it freezes at the 'dell' boot-up logo and after about 30 seconds the bluetooth light starts flashing. I cannot establish a usb connection, and the only way to get out is a hard reset. this works, but reinstalling everything takes a while and it happens every few days.

I talked to the amazingly wonderful helpful chat people :rolling: , and one told me it was possible hardware failure, and one told me to upgrade to rom A04, but I don't want to upgrade unless I have a way to rollback to my previous rom.

Any advice? Thanks in advance for any answers.

Almost sounds like my poor Zodiac2 as it slowly deteriorated. :(

Personally I'd take Dell up on a replacement unit. Did you try using it a few days after hard resetting WITHOUT reinstalling any 3rd party apps? I know that's a very unappealing way to use it, but maybe some app you use is the culprit? If so, your unit could be fine. So you might want to try to track that down before getting a new unit.

I'd also be really wary of that A04 update. Seems like it's been worse for many people afterwards. I know when I get my x51v next week, I'm not updating the ROM anytime too soon.

yeah, i have a couple third-party apps installed on there, one time i was running the included racing game when it froze, the other time i can't remember. i try to be selective about the random programs i put on there though.

is there some problem with the axim or with wm5 that would cause so many problems with some apps? i put none on my axim that weren't on my old toshiba e355 for two years without a problem.

i don't think i could get dell to replace it before i do a rom update, i talked to another chat person , they said to do the upgrade too, but i want to be careful about that. if it's the only way to go though...

i would be more willing to upgrade though if i knew of a way to backup the current rom so i could flash it back if A04 turned out to be worse. do you know of such a tool?
