I was so excited to see my New X51V yesterday when UPS guy handed me over but it all disappeared soon enough when I had to press reset button after 10 mins. and since then I really do not know how many times I have done that (unit is freezing up).Another shock came when my laptop won't sync x51v . I tried to call Dell and they asked me tp update to Active Sync 4.1. No luck even after that (changed all the usb ports,turned off all firewall and antivirus s/w). Then he asked me to install it on my desktop and it worked fine. But I really wanna sync it with my laptop.(all my USB ports are working fine with other hardwares).

Please people let me know is it a defective unit or common for X51V.TIA!

Try a search around the forum. You will see the problems are common.
One suggestion would be to update to ROM A04.
That seems to help, though not fix some problems.

What were you doing in those first 10 mins? I've had the device for a week now, and ive only had 1 freeze so far and that was after i'd installed a few apps and was messing around with the unit!

I was just browsing thru my new unit (seeing diffrent programs things like that).

Could it be that you had such a lot of applications open and in memory that it lagged the device?

Some people (according to the posts in this forum) had problems with
ActiveSync 4.1 running on Win2K.
I am using WinXP and didn't have any sync problems.

If you are having issues on a laptop, then you might check to see if some wireless network card software is running. Linksys for example installs a peice of software that is supposed to help you manage your Wireless NIC but it really seems to interfere with your laptops ability to get a connection to your PPC. You can set this connection to "Use Windows to Manage" under your network properties of the wireless NIC. If you set Windows to manage your connection, make sure you take the Linksys program out of the startup group or it will restart everytime you reboot your laptop.

I saw this on another laptop and the reason was that he had windows firewall on. When I turned this off it worked fine.
