Hi, I've got my Axim X51v last Saturday and I was quite happy with it. But I didn't expect to have to seek help so soon...
Just only yesteday I noticed that on white backgrounds, eg when using File Explorer or Word Mobile, about 1/3 of the whole screen (on right hand side) shows a slight pinkish colour. It cannot be due any external software because I didn't install any. The Today theme is Windows Default, which is blue, so it shoudn't cause the pink hue. However the pinkish colour cannot be seen when the screen displays darker colours.
Is this normal? Or it is because the screen is less bright on the right side, hence causing a "darker" white colour when compared to the left?
This is not normal. I would suggest you give Dell a call and arrange for a replacement. I have had my x51v for about a month and have not noticed any abnormal colors even on "white screen of death" which I get occasionally.
Palm had this problem when they first released the Palm IIIc. They said it was due to a problem with the mixture of gas in the lighting tube leading to a pinkish color. I would definitely call Dell for a replacement.
I was given a refurbished unit as replacement even though my unit is less than 2 weeks old! I have rejected the refurb since there seemed to be some small scratches on the screen and a big scratch on the shiny silver part of the unit.
Now I'm trying to get Dell to send another replacement unit...I was thinking maybe I should keep my current one in case they send me another unit with blemishes? I've attached 2 photos of my screen showing the discolouration in white backgrounds. Seems to me that even the left side of the screen also shows a pinkish colour. Can anyone advise me whether the fault's serious enough to exchange for a refurb.... ?
The left photo is taken at lowest brightness setting, the right photo is a software adjusted image of the left photo to show the discolouration more clearly. The screen is displaying a powerpoint presentation with a totally white backgroud.
Get a refurb. Tell dell that you paid a lot of money for this service and that you want a device with no issues. I have not recieved a refurb Axim with scratches on screen or silver part.

Go for a replacement if you can. Dell isn't that bad after you hurdle any possible "language barriers."
Are elephants looking pink? If so, you have bigger problems.

If the tech support handled your replacement, it's almost always a refurb. Talk with customer care instead. They sent me a refurb the first time, and a whole new package the second.
Thanks everyone for your reply. I wish you a merry Christmas and a very good year in 2006!
Just to update you, I'll been informed today that I'll be given a new unit after Christmas :) Not an easy task to get it, considering the no. of phone calls I've made within the past few days to both Tech Support and Customer Care. Anyway, I hope that I'll be able to enjoy my new Axim after Christmas and not have to repeat this all over again.

Oh no, I received a NEW replacement Axim - with a dent on the top left side of the silver casing & 3 parts of the silver casing near to the screen had the silver paint come off (see photos)! Customer Care told me that these "faults" are within manufacturing tolerance limits, so either I keep this replacement or return both Axims & get a full refund. It's not possible to get another new or refurbished unit since the replacement is in good working condition.
I've decided to get a full refund. Reason is I've a 5-year-old Palm m500 & 3 year-old HP Jornada which are still looked better than the replacement Axim - no dents or paint tarnishment - and in excellent working condition despite regular usage. Maybe I'll consider getting an Ipaq instead. And I'll be returning the PDair case which is being shipped to me & try to get a refund.

your first and second picture is quite serious and not tolerable. i received a replacement from dell and found the LCD's alignment is a bit out so they will send another one to me. Hopefully it will be better. Anyway I think getting a refund is fair for you.

I had a replacement and the same thing occured! And I thought I was alone on receiving a dented axim. It was also dented in a very similar position as yours, so I believe they probably had a problem with the mould that makes the casing.
