Myriad Fixes Really Work?

I am a seriously frustrated X51V owner. I troll these forums constantly to find fixes that stay fixed. I try every new flavor, and it often seems to turn out that the fix really didn't permanently fix a anything.

For example:

Bluetooth always on fixes no power on problem/whitescreen problem/CF disappearance problem. Several people swore this worked for xx hours or xx days. Then the later posts say it doesn't work. Is this fix debunked? This fix didn't work for me.

Activesync syncing every 5 minutes fixed by adding a dummy server. I performed this fix, and it worked the first time I synced, but never again after that. Is this fix still accepted as valid?

Basically, if I have wireless on, and let my X51V go to sleep on it's own, I have NO faith that it will wake up the next day, or it gets the white screen problem, or the battery is dead as a doornail. How can some Axims (I've had two myself) have this problem, and others not? Aren't most of you using the wireless function? Are the people without problems not using wireless?

I am tired of the hassle of dealing with Dell support, and simply getting another Axim to spend countless hours setting up again, only to have the exact same problems. Why can't they say sorry, and that they screwed up, and that they will fix it by such and such a date instead of wasting all of our time with these patchwork 'fixes'? Normally, I'd say any new technology has some risks and problems, but my wife's X50V doesn't have these strange problems, and my old HP 3870 wasn't even this bad. Are these 'fixes' working for all of you?

A frustrated X51V owner,
Chris

From different posts on this board, the next version of Windows Mobile 5 is supposed to fix some or all of these problems and is due out by end of December to middle of January. For me, I am not doing any of the band aids, leaving BT on, etc. I just do a soft reset at least every day and hope the A05 load will cure all.

just to give you some backup, i'm having the exact problems as you described. all of the "fixes" don't work for me and the common factor is that if the wifi is on when i turn it off, it wont turn back on. i'll keep my fingers crossed for the both of us.

As long as I don't leave WiFi on when turning the unit off the bluetooth fix works for me and keeps me from losing my CF and SD cards and from failing to turn on.

The bluetooth fix doesn't seem like much of a "fix". Have you noticed significantly faster battery draining with Bluetooth always enabled?

No battery draining and actually improves! Probably since the unit stays turned off with BT always on fix.

Well, the Bluetooth is going to take a bit of battery power if it is on. I doubt it uses as much as WiFi, but it uses more than having it off.

I'm more curious about the dummy server fix. I hesitate to do it, if as noted in the first post, it only helps once! BT on has been a big help, but if the dummy server allowed me to turn it off, I would be happier!!

Yesterday I did the registry changes and turned bluetooth on and left it on. This is the FIRST time I was able to turn it off for hours and off overnight and have it turn back on every time without a soft reset. The cache registry changes and also seemed to give it a little more pep. It does use up some program memory however, but if you can afford it, it's worth it.

I use wireless both WiFi and BT extensively with my x51. I sync with BT and ActiveSync 4.0 without any problems using a Targus USB BT adapter on my PC. I use a BT keyboard. I receive e-mail, download AvantGo (directly as opposed to Active Sync), and surf the Internet with WiFi without any problems. I have BT on 24/7. I do not have battery drain problems. I do not have any problems with disappearing CF and SD cards of which I have both installed. I do not have power on or white screen problems. I have not installed ROM A04. I have not done a hard reset. I have not changed the registry. This stable operation is entering its fourth week since going to BT 24/7 as the only adjustment to what came out of the box.

This is the Hardware troubles forum, 'Axim won't turn on', and post 291 is where you need to look for the actual power on fix, but...

The tweak program spoken of there has a fix that speeds up your 51, and also makes the power issue go away without turning on the bluetooth or any of the other fairly unreliable fixes. The tweak program is here and worth the $15 I paid. I haven't had hardly any of the issues I've seen on the forums but experienced my first won't power up issue yesterday so went looking for a fix.

to find the program. It rocks
