Question Technical Documentation for X51

I'm a member of the faculty in the MIS department of Temple University. This fall we are starting an exciting new program. Every student that takes our data communications and networking course will receive a Dell Axim X51. The device is theres to keep. This is part of project where we will explore how this type of device can add value to the educational experience of our students. Our goal is to help students develop into both business savvy technology professionals as well as technology savvy business professionals. We feel that all information age business professionals should be comfortable using this type of device.

I teach our data communications and networking class and need to find some material to intergrate into this course. While the course is titled data communications and networking, it is really a course that looks at lots of different technologies from processors (introducing registers, control units, ALUs, word size, cycle time, instruction sets, etc.) to storage, to the system bus and I/O, to of course networking. Could anyone direct me to any good sources of technical information for the X51 that I could reference when adding content to this course that targets these areas?

In addition, another person is working with a handful of students over the holiday break to explore how students would use these devices to add value. This could be anything from storing the course syllabus and PowerPoint presentations on their devices to utilizing productivity apps (e-mail, calendar, contacts, etc.) to simply having fun with the device like using it to play MP3s or games. Would you have any suggestions on where we should start looking to find how other students are already getting value out of these types of devices?

Thanks,

Mart Doyle

since your department can afford this toy for every students ( so nice !! ) ... there is this one particular program that I might suggest you can throw it in with their perks so far :D

http://www.handmark.com/products/res...dent&x=30&y=12

this should be a "must have" for every students that owns a Pocketpc ! ;)

It should also help Teachers/Students to track, sync and/or managed data...great for your information study/management as well ( conducting a study like you are after ...etc )

sorry I could not be of more help otherwise :)

Since you may qualify as institutional user, I'd bet that Dell's Business unit could be more helpful with info. Also, I would suggest contacting Microsoft. Their Windows Mobile Group may jump at an opportunity like this. Tell them who you are and what you would like to do.

Well, I'm only in the 10th grade, as are a couple of users around here. My primary use would have to be as an organizer for school. The software I use to do this is Handmar 4.0 Student. It's pretty cool software, but could definatley have some imporvements. Games are really cool if they are capable of two person across Bluetooth or some other wireless technology. A MUST have is TCPMP (The Core Pocket Media Player) it plays may more types of files than WMP. Also the coolest website in the world (not really but) www.logmein.com It's totally awsome to be able to control my laptop from anywhere. Also VNC viewer is nice over Wi-Fi espically if you are an instructor. ( If you are showing a PPT onscreen from your laptop, then you can create a VNC connection from your Axim to your laptop, and then you can control it's actions from anywhere in the room with your Axim. That's all for now.

Welcome to Aximsite
