again ... I repeat ... video quality is about YOU coding. As I am able to play any size/type/bitrate without any problem.
Video quality is about encoding AND decoding. Case in point would be why video clips play well on my Windows Media but not on TCPMP. The clips were all encoded by Pocket DVD. But apparently WM is decoding it properly while TCPMP isn't (even though its settings may not be right as you said; but I did play with the settings, but to no avail).

There will be if the size and bitrate exceed what your hardware can handle.

Try viewing some of these HD WMV clips on your Axim : http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...tShowcase.aspx

Some of the 1080p clips have bitrates of 10 megabits/s that will choke even my *desktop* media player.

Btw, I just played a 2000 kbps 640x480 24fps clip on my x51v with WM and it was still pretty smooth but it did drop some frames, so apparently that is the limit of the hardware.

After playing with DVD Cataylst/PocketDVD for a while now I do not know how anyone gets a reasonable quality video out of this software. The only way that I get away from the "pixelated" videos is by going to 2 passes with DVD Cataylst which creates huge files. I have tried several other packages and so far this is the best video quality.

Maybe I haven't found the right combination but I have played with passes and bit rates and frame rates without much success at getting quality video within a reasonable file size. Maybe there is a setting within TCPMP that I am missing. Whatever the case, I am wondering if I have to accept low video quality for the convenience of having movies with me.

I hate these pixels!

I'll have to try this pocketDVD. I followed the tutorial for "flawless" dvd conversion using Windows Media Encoder. GARBAGE! Macroblocking like you would believe. Of course, what do you expect with 120 minutes at only 107MB?

I'm taking a trip this weekend. I'll be taking my portable DVD player along. I have spent all of the time that I intend to trying to get qualiy video to my SD card. Maybe I will give this a try again after I get a 6/8 gig hard drive to store the huge files that I have had to create to get rid of the pixels.

I sincerely hope that it is me and not the technology that has yielded the results that I have gotten. If it is the technology, were not there yet when it comes to quality.
