Has anyone sucessfully made and played a VGA film with Pocket DVD Wizard on their X51V?
All movies that I have converted with the software in QVGA format work perfectly both as it starts to play in Windows Media Player in the small window and also when you tap the button to view it full screen. However, all movies that I have made using the VGA option in the software play perfectly in the initial small window of media player but as soon as you try to view it full screen it crashes the PDA immediately with a black screen. I have even tried it with smaller files (30 mins or so) that are in VGA and it consistently crashes the PDA. The only way to revive the PDA is with a soft reset.
I dont know if anyone else has experience this? I am a bit disapointed as being able to watch better quality video was one of the main reasons for upgrading. I have reported it to the authors of the software too.
Sorry I cannot help you but I have had the same problem I will let you know If I find a solution for this. Just out of interest what do you use to convert the files and what card do you read the file of (SD or CF).
I use commercial software called "Pocket DVD Wizard" (http://www.pocket-dvd-wizard.com/) and am putting the file onto a Panasonic High Speed 512MB SD card (made in Japan). I havent tried it on a CF card myself as I dont have access to one but I do have a microdrive (2.2gb) that I could try.

my advice to you is to STOP using WMplayer ... ( sucks! ) ... get this player instead . (TCPMP) .. best player out there in terms of playing anything you throw at it ! ... don't forget to download the plugins as well ...you should download the program + 4 additional plugins.
~~~ I am able to play even the REGULAR (divx/xvid ...etc) that is 700MB and normally fit on a CDR ... ( I played through the network browser BTW ;) ...like I've said ... it is the swiss army of media players :p
Appologies for being a bit crap but any idea which of the files I need to download for the X51V?
tcpmp.arm.cabs.0.71.zip 2720761 21,981 Other Other
tcpmp.mips.cabs.0.71.zip 1523035 2,179 Other Other
The arm ones are the only ones that will work on our devices.
I used DVD Catalyst to rip 1.5 hours into 250Mb. During playback using TCPMP I still see pixels. Is this out of the ordinary? Is this output format dependent (XVID, DIXIX5)? Should I use 2 passes instead of 1?
the quality is depends on how you process the original file, nothing to do with the player ... try playing it on the desktop PC .. I bet you will also see pixels.
TCPMP reminds me of my APEX DVD player ... throw anything at it and it will play ...no problems.
make sure you installed the 4 additional plugins to enjoy the full experience !! :approve:
I have the total opposite experience as you guys. I also use Pocket DVD to convert video to VGA resolution (640x480), but the fullscreen playback is smooth as silk on my x51v WM5 A01 using Windows Media even at a high bit rate of 700 kbit/s, and it's choppy as hell on TCPMP with the plugins. In fact, I get choppy playback on TCPMP with all my video clips that have high bit rates, but they always look good on Windows Media. I don't know why my experience is so cataclysmically different from you guys'...
I used to experience the same thing as you ... you should go into TCPMP's settings and customized each page of options ..ESPECIALLY the VIDEO setting page ...just play around and findout which settings suit you best.
again ... I repeat ... video quality is about YOU coding. As I am able to play any size/type/bitrate without any problem.
I have the NETWORK browser software ... and set up & share a folder which contain all kind/size/bitrate..etc videos/movies ...no problem whatsoever when viewing
I have used PocketDVD for lots of movies. They work in tcpmp and windows media player. I have tried 320x 240 and 640 x 480. Both play fine. I just use standard settings tring to make final size around 250Mb.
