Acrobat reader 2.0 and "missing SD card" error on x51v

I got a new WM5 Axim x51v that came with A01 rom, put in my Ambicom 512MB SD card, installed all my apps on the SD card, and the past few days the one error that won't go away is Acrobat Reader 2.0 giving me the "storage card removed" error whenever I open a PDF file (also on SD card) and leave it opened, turn off my Axim either with power button or have it power off itself after inactivity, and turn it back on again. The SD card is, of course, never removed. A screen cap of the error:

After I tap OK, the Axim would get so unstable -- whether or not I take out and reinsert the SD card -- that I have to soft reset the Axim.

First of all, I never have the problem of not being able to turn on the Axim like some people have.

And I ONLY have Acrobat Reader 2.0 giving me this problem. There is no problem when I open MS Reader docs, games, pictures, or movie clips in Windows Media player. If the Axim is turned off with the file still opened, and then turned on again, there is no error.

I tried both of the registry hacks (PHP Unload Delay hack, the FATFS hack) mentioned in the thread "x51 not turning on" and they made NO DIFFERENCE. I have since undone both of these hacks.

I did run the security prompt bug fix utility, and applied the hack mentioned in the thread WM5 tips for disabling ActiveSync (I have 4.1) from running automatically in the Axim. I like them and I have both of these hacks currently in effect. I also applied this VGA hack for Acrobat Reader. None of these tweaks made any difference to the "storage card removed" error.

Anyone have the same problem? I tend to think Acrobat Reader is to blame since it wasn't really made for WM5 and has no native VGA support.

I know there is a Repligo viewer that works with PDFs, but I have trouble converting PDFs to the Repligo format. Their converter is apparently not good enough to convert large PDF files. I'm using the trial version and I have yet to successfully convert one PDF file. I posted a message at Repligo's forum: http://www.cerience.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=538

I use adobe to create my pdfs. Those I have done work fine with the PPC application. I can load them from a CF or a SD card with out any issues. I have scanned some of my old out of publication books and converted them to pdf through software I use to store my scanned images (PaperPort). The only difference we have is I have turned on my BT and have left it on even when turning my unit off. By doing this I have stopped the loss of both CF and SD cards and have not had to do a soft reset since turning it on (over 3 weeks now)

Yep, I have Bluetooth OFF. I heard about turning it on would fix this, but I don't want waste battery. Besides, it's weird that only Acrobat Reader is giving me this problem...

Battery drain from 100% to 98% over an 8 hour period. Worth it to me to have a stable system with out the loss of my CF or SD cards. No soft resets also.

I have the same problem with PocketBible, AvantGo, MobiPocket Reader and whatever else I install to the SD card. I've turned on BT and it didn't help. I had to install all programs and books into main memory then I quit having the problem. I'm waiting to see if the problem will ever get fixed. I'm beginning to wonder if I should've bought an HP or just stuck to my old trusty Toshiba e310. I decided to stick it out and see if things improve. I'm sure Microsoft must be getting sick of me sending "Error Reports" to them for the same problem.

Another big annoyance is that most programs are written for QVGA and there's no way to dumb down my x51v screen. The program I use most is AvantGo and they don't seem to want to make a VGA version.

KPM, I also tried turning on Bluetooth for the past few days and it didn't help. Sometimes I got the aforementioned "storage card removed" error and sometimes I didn't. As I said, this has only happened to Acrobat Reader 2.0 for PPC, so I guess I can live with that. I use Ambicom 150x 512MB SD card. It shouldn't matter what card we use but...have you tried a different brand of SD card?

I'm using a SanDisk 1GB SD card. The only other one I have is just a 128MB off-brand one that's good enough for my camera, but too small for the Axim.

I am using a PNY 1GB card and see the same problem.
I notice that it's been awhile since any post have been made to this discussion. Did you ever resolve the problem or are you just living with it?

No I didn't resolve it. I'm not using Adobe that much so it's not a major concern. Every other program works fine so my suspicion is the Adobe Reader, which also has some other quirks, such as direct tapping of a PDF file not opening up the document (a problem I always have).
