Returned my new X51V

Today, I called Dell and UPS will arrive tomorrow to PU my new Dell X51V. The new product has many issues for me to spend time with hard resets, soft resets, telephone calls, etc.

Maybe it's time to look at other PDA's like HP or wait several months for Dell to work out the bugs.....

What do you think?

Will return to my Dell Axim X3i...........

Have a great day!

I really haven't had too many problems with the X51, so I am sorry that you had to say good by to yours. If you want you can ship it to me. There is a rumor about a new ROM update coming in january taht should fix many many issues. O well.

Welcome to Aximsite
Good bye X51V

You might want to grab a solid X50v off the classified list or ebay. Very solid and similar (of course) to the X51v. And, if/when WM5 is straightened out on the Dell, you can always upgrad.

I also returned mine today, after having a lockup during a bluetooth synchronization. The A04 update would not install, and the customer service representative told me today that new hardware will be released in January to address the problems.

It seems there is much more that is defective than just WM5. I did ask if they planned to provide hardware replacements to all current X51v owners, and was told YES. However, I have had so many misleading and incorrect statements in the past few weeks that I am no longer willing to take anyone at Dell at their word.

I still like the hardware (the design fits well in the hand), and will probably purchase again when the replacement comes out and gets a clean bill of health. I just have better things to do than provide free engineering services to Dell and Microsoft doing alpha-testing on their products. :iconbangh

Hopefully the next release will come up to beta-release standards.

Hi all My first post here ) I realy Love this Site and read all post since some time and very good thing are posted here and learned alot good thing for help to Love my Axim X51V

Before my X51v had Visor Palm E , E2 . Zire 72 and Hp rx3115 )

Palm OS rock and easy but Palm still dont listen consumer about Battery that are not removal, wifi etc .. I left palm for Pocket PC and started with Rx3115 that was good units but sold this unit because HP are very slow for update Firmware and fix bug ex: take more 6 months for get french update after english one )

Ok my Reply on this post it About Dell Axim X51V are very good and work well yes have some bug but must of bug are not the fault of Dell or Microsoft but is the fault of Sofware that you Install that not WM5 Ready or Say yes ready but not realy tested etc ... SORRY to say but if you can find why you Dell Axim X51v crash etc .. maybe you are not ready for Pocket PC and you should buy PALM because it more easy ! do less but more easy and rarely crash

This forum are best of all and you can find all answer for help you to fix your issus

First when you buy a New Axim X51V dont install i bunch of sofware all in same time ! lol install one and test if you X51v not crash etc .. ! Yes not funny to do this but all less you will learn and love your Axim X51 more if not you will come here and Post that you hate you X51v and return it to Dell.

Windows Mobile 5 is new and alot software are not ready and can crash you X51v often ! Like Windows XP when was new alot software was not ready and XP crashed often but now XP are very good and alot better than old OS Like Windows 95 , 98 and ME !

X51V and WM5 rock and have some issus will be fixed soon and if you test what sofwqare you install on your X51V that will help to stop X51v to crash :) ! if you dont want check what you install and want install anything on you Pocket PC maybe better to you to buy X50v with 2003Se because all sofware will run on 2003Se or buy a palm that are more easier

BTW Dell have very good support if you have issus with your Axim X51v they send you new one fast ! Try this with HP hehe Hp you tell you that if you unit with WM5 crash if becaus eof your sofware you installed not HP fault

Sorry for my English

I love My Axim X51V

I have owned 3 Palms :) and 1 PPC.. :) .. my current Axim x31 :yeah: works great, just wanted a new PPC after several years.

The equipment should work out of the box. The non 'tech' individual would be in great trouble. If my new laptop had the same problems, I would send it back...... It reminds me of the days from 95 to 98 in the beginning months....... MS asked us to be patience, while my Mac friends were laughing…..

I will wait :approve: until the problems are worked out between Dell and MS....

Have a great day!

Jweller you are correct. It should work right, but we're the guinea pigs b/c we're willing to experiment w/new technology. At least some of us are. The rest of us recommend good ole' x50v's. Hope you find a good pda for yourself and keep visiting us.

I am not giving up yet. I now have the X51v for about a week, and I still have my X50v that has been with me for about 13months. If I need to I will go back to the X50v for a while until updates come out for the X51v. I fixed most of the issues, only the BT issue is causing me grief now.

Maybe you guys should check out my review of the hp iPAQ 4700, I traded my X50v + WM5 for this device and so far it's exceeded my expectations in nearly every aspect!

Humm ! The X51V work out of the Box and the trouble begin when you install some software that not WM5 ready

The problems is not between Dell and Ms ! some bug but the real proble atm is between WM5 and Software you install !

For MS vs Mac There are alot more software for MS than for Mac and alot sofware for MS are cheap or suck ! When you install on MS OS 100 software and 10 on MAC os you have chance to have more bug on MS than Mac )

All hacker , Virus , Etc... are make for attack MS system than dont help too For finish MS can run on Hardware that not the same sound card ,video, motherboard cpu , etc ! for Mac it easy same Hardware ! More easy to make a OS system for same hardware ! :)

The HP hx4700 is being phrased out, as an HP rep has told me...Anyhow, WM5 for the 4700 won't be available until late 2006 spring, that's still a long time.

Anyhow, the X51v is a great unit; beautiful VGA screen in particular.
