A51v Notification Error :( help?!

Every time I turn on my PDA I get the following message:

Notification Error
Cannot execute \Program
Files\Funk
Software\Odyssey
Client\OdClientCE.exe

It stalls the pda for about 3 minutes every time I turn on. Any idea how I can deal with this and stop this happening? I dream of the day where I dont have to wait 5 mins every time I turn it on to do what I want, other than this I have no problems!

Try to manually exit your Odyssey client before turning your axim off. If this doesn't work try MemMaid, and delete it in the notifications tab.

I tried memmaid and it found lots of multiple instances of odyssey? I told it to remove all multiple items there were others as well. Im hoping now this may have fixed the problem. Ill repoty back shortly.

try removing all instances of Odyssey from the notifications tab if just removing the duplicates doesn't work. Good luck.

I am cautious to say BUT it seems to have worked! From a soft reset it seems much quicker to boot, and turn on response time is only about 10 seconds compared to a few minutes.. This could really improve my life with this PDA. I say this cautiously, as its early days but thanks very much! Just out of interest what does all that notification stuff do? Anything i should/should not do?

I think you will be fine. There are just some programs which needs to be closed properly before going to hibernate mode (eg. for me it's Garmin GPS10), in your case it might be the Odyssey client which you need to exit when going into hibernation. I hope your problem is solved for good.

Im hoping that too! I use it all the time and so closing and opening it will be a real problem. Since its installed by dell I hope that I should be ok, as I've not seen others mention it. Seems good so far!! :) :)

Word to the wise, keep a folder on your laptop of all the programs installed on your Axim with with registration codes. Some times things get screwed up enough or the registry gets screwed up enough that a hard reset is called for. After which you need to reinstall all your added apps. I have found that installing most of my add on apps and software to a memory card works best. But I have some apps that involve the system that just don't work to good from a card, and need to be installed on internal storage. Luckily, I've had my x50v almost 2 years and only had to hard reset once! I soft reset when ever I install any software!

I use WPA WiFi encryption at home and thought I needed to use the Odyssey client. After struggling with the exact same problem you describe, I discovered that Windows Mobile 5.0 handles WPA. I just disabled and exited the Odyssey client and have not had any further problems.

Hi Mike:

Can you explain in some detail, how you set up your home wireless router and your AXIM with respect to WPA and not using Odyssey.

With my set up, I must enable Odyssey or else the AXIM will not connect. I have established a password in my Linksys Router, that may be the issue.

Thanks

I also get the "funk error" mentioned by Axim Ed (no relation) and it takes ages to start up my x51v. The handbook really sucks when covering wireless access and I too am puzzled how you can connect to a WPA secured router without using Odyssey

Sorry for the long delay.

I had to use the Odyssey client on my old Axim X30 to use WPA security with my Linksys router, and I assumed the same when I bought an Axim X51V. You can set up WPA using the Odyssey client, but you will experience sluggish operation and a slow power up time. It turns out that the WM5 OS now supports WPA.

I unchecked the "Connect to:" box on the Odyssey Settings page, tapped "disable Odyssey" on the same page, and then tapped Exit.

Go to the "Dell WLAN Utility" main tab, select Setting button, Select "Add New..." fill in your router SSID for network name, on the Network Key tab you will find WPA-PSK under "Authentication:", "TKIP" will be your only Data Encryption choice, enter your router password in the Network Key: field. Tap "OK" in the upper right corner of the screen.

You should see your netowrk name in the list.

My PDA connects in 6 seconds after turning on WiFi.

Hope this helps!
